Liz: It is only assumed, not proven, that we have a DAVIS in our tree. This assumption is made from RICHARD CRISWELL's Rev. War pension petition. where a witness, SUSANNAH GOSSAGE, (nee DAVIS) refers to RICHARD CRISWELL as her uncle. RICHARD CRISWELL served a 2nd tour in MD as a substitute for his "brother" ANDREW. RICHARD did not have a brother, ANDREW & apparently, the term "brother" could mean "brother-in- law back in those days. I am trying to find out what the name of RICHARD's wife was, but most researches refer to her as unknown DAVIS. Some think that her given name was RACHEL or REBECCA. Her name is given as unknown DAVIS in SAR records, although no one has become a member using RICHARD CRISWELL as a patriot. Do you know of a JEHU DAVIS or JEHU LANE? Thanks for asking. -Donna Mollaun
