To go back to Bavaria, you need the town they came from. I quickly found him and some siblings in most censuses from 1850-1880, sometimes spelled wrong. You have his death certificate with date of death. Some suggestions, some maybe not easy to get, but possibly available: -check the cemetery for others buried there -check newspaper death notices and obituaries in Baltimore Sun and Der Deutsche Correspondent, the major German-language newspaper in Baltimore. Both are at the main Pratt Library. -church records. They lived at the corner of East Eager & Aisquith St in 1880. -naturalization records, especially if there is a Declaration of Intent (in most cases, they have been destroyed, but I have found them occasionally) -look for all the same for the siblings John
