    1. [MD-BALTIMORECITY] DETMER, circa 1800-1820 Merchant Tailor
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Detmer, Breckinan ?, Kleine, Dyckhus (Dickhaus), Luken, Enneking Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/AFB.2ACI/4758 Message Board Post: I am trying to see if there was a DETMER family living and doing business as merchant tailors in the city around 1800-1820. Son was G.H. Detmer born about 1799 and he immigrated from Germany with his parents about 1805. Do not have any immigration records. Catholic. Father may have been Gerhardt or Henry Detmer. By 1834 GH Detmer appears in Cleveland as a merchant tailor (census records indicate immigration 1834, but family history indicates he was in Baltimore where he learned his trade and opened his own shop by age 19--which would have been about 1818 +/-. Very possible that he returned to homeland to find a wife (and parents also returning to homeland) and then returning. Possible area of Germany near Damme, Osnabruck or Hannover. Would like a 1800, 1810 and 1820 US census lookup. Also a check for a business (Gazetteer) listing in the city would be helpful between 1800-1820. Thank you in advance. Pat
