Someone may be able to help you if you provide his name and approximate age, and maybe who he likely travelled with. The NARA Baltimore Passenger list microfilms and Ancestry both list ship arrivals to Baltimore, but neither is 100% complete. I know they are missing many ships from the 1850's and earlier. Since you have the date of arrival, I would check the Baltimore Sun a day or two later. Ship arrivals, especially large ships, were generally reported in the Sun and other newspapers a day or so after arrival. They are available at the main Pratt library. John
