    3. Hi List! I am trying to locate cemetery records at Swartz Cemetery. I have written but have never heard back from them. Has anyone else had any success on obtaining records? Thanks, Elizabeth

    3. Elizabeth, Gary Ruppert posted the following message on this list in 2004. A transcribed index of the church burial records from 1864-1884 are now available at the MD Genealogical Society web site (look in databases) at http://www.mdgensoc.org/ John >From Gary: The name is Schwartz, not Swartz, however the actual name is First German United Evangelical Cemetery and it's still located where it has always been on O'Donnell Street opposite and to the east of Mount Carmel. It is affiliated with First German United Evangelical Church (now First Evangelical UCC) on the north side of Eastern Avenue at Regester Street just east of Broadway. The church was established in 1851. Records of the cemetery have not been microfilmed; records of the church have been and are available at the MSA. There is a caretaker's cottage on the property and the cemetery is generally well cared for.
