Hi, I know this is an odd question, but maybe someone has some ideas. I have been trying to locate the birth father of my great-great-grandmother. We always knew her as Eliza Jane Kirk, daughter of John Kirk, but in his will he lists all children BUT her, making me wonder if she was born to someone else and raised by John Kirk and his wife. She was married before the US census listed anyone but head of household, so that doesn't help--I know you can search the census with first name. John Kirk is listed as her father on her marriage bond and much property was transferred (sold) between the 2 families after her marriage. I tried to search by first name and birth year and state at familysearch.org, but they don't allow it. Any ideas? She was born in 1826. Court records, while available back then, are sketchy and often illegitimacies were kept quiet. I know it is possible she was left out of the will for some other reason, and she actually WAS John Kirk's natural child, but normally such a child would at least be mentioned. She was still alive when her "father" died and on good terms with him. Thanks! Mona
