I am planning to visit the MD State Archives this Friday, Oct 6 and may have time to get some death certificates or do quick lookups in other microfilm. The MD State Archives were evacuated at 2pm on Wednesday due to a fire. The records are safe, but the lobby area did smell like smoke. They think the problem had to do with the air conditioning system. They did not reopen on Wednesday and told us they were not sure if they would be open until the problem is fixed. You may want to call them before you go. (and give us an update.)
