Gary, I searched the Baltimore Sun archives thinking there might be story. I found thousands of hits before 1900, on meetings and conferences, etc. There were none at all that I could find after about 1938. Maybe the ELCA-Region 8 Archives in Gettysburg? Also, the latest issue of Family Tree Magazine (July/August) has an article called "Researching Lutheran Ancestors." I'll save it for you if you want.
