    3. What I do if I can't find some one by the last name and suspect it is mis-spelled, what I do is check by the first name. I put in date of birth. Then (if ancestry) where born, where lived and sex and then each country at a time. It is a little time consuming but over half the time I find them.

    1. [MD-BALTIMORECITY] Gaff family
    2. I am seeking information on the John Joseph Gaff family of Baltimore, MD. John born 19 Oct. 1923 in Baltimore, MD; died Sept 1990 in Baltimore. Would it be possible to get an obit on him? His father was John Joseph Gaff b. about 1900 Baltimore; died about 1935. Wife was Martha Mae Smith b. about 1906 Baltimore; died about 1954 Baltimore. Exact death dates are unknown at this time. John's grandfather is believed to be: Edward J. Gaff b. about 1879; died between 1910 and 1920; his wife's name is Catherine A. She was still alive in 1920 census living with a son Edward J. John's great grandfather is believed to be William Gaff b. about 1839 in Ireland who immigrated to American in 1859. I don't have a name for his wife. Don't know if he served in the Civil War or not. Thanks for any help or advice offered. Carol Hicks Hoopeston,IL

I recently obtained my wife's aunt's social security card application from Feb. 12, 1942 which lists the Seven seas-35 Custom House as her place of employment. It has been said that she once owned a tavern and we think this may have been it. Any information would be getly appreciated. 1. [MD-BALTIMORECITY] Maryland marriage index: 1951-1972
    2. Don Krieger
    3. Hi Everyone: The Maryland groom's index is now up on my site for 1951-1972. Below is the text of the original message describing the bride's index. And here are direct links to the groom's indices: http://www.donslist.net/PGHLookups/MDmal195162M.htm http://www.donslist.net/PGHLookups/MDmal196372M.htm As many here likely know, the Maryland marriage index is now online on the state archives site. You can get there through this link: http://guide.mdsa.net/series.cfm?action=viewSeries <http://guide.mdsa.net/series.cfm?action=viewSeries&ID=SM225> &ID=SM225 They have put the microfilm images of the both the bride's and groom's indices into pdf files. I've rerendered these for my site to make them more accessible. The pdf's are 70 MBytes or larger whereas my site allows you to browse the images very rapidly. I've also created a searchable text index from the images. It's imperfect so don't be discouraged if you try it and you don't find what you're looking for. The images have either the brides or grooms in alphabetical order one year at a time so it's not hard nor time-consuming to search. I've finished the Bride's index and got it up on my directory page: http://Directory.DonsList.net <http://directory.donslist.net/> The Groom's index is in progress and should be finished in about a week. Here are direct links to what's up right now: http://www.donslist.net/PGHLookups/MDfem195162M.htm http://www.donslist.net/PGHLookups/MDfem196372M.htm It's divided into two pieces covering 1951-1962 and 1963-1972. Please cross-post to other Maryland groups about it if you feel it's appropriate.
