I think that is where you'll find any records. Baltimore City was not established as a separate jurisdiction until 1851. Let us know if you find it. The land I'm interested in would've been purchased around 1810-1820 in Old Town. I think in that time period, Old Town was County, though now its City. I was going to look for a certain name in the index. Anyone come across this dilemma? Thanks in advance. -Donna Carter Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Hello John, Thanks so much for the response on this topic posted on Rootsweb. I've seen the jockey stuff in other papers both in Washington DC and New York. I can't seem to place him in the family. Just race results doesn't help me a bit. That person however, in another paper is arrested for grand larceny further down the road. Guess we should stay away from the track, huh? The other stuff both of Lloyd and Margaret I would appreciate. Maybe I can glean something from it. I'm surprised you didn't come across the article about the children being abandoned. I have that one. Someone reported children crying all night and the cops were called only to find nobody home but the kids. They apparently were taken into protective custody and later placed in foster care where at least one was adopted. I'm in touch with that one person. It's Doris A. that's my real interest now. Where can one access marriage records in Baltimore without the ever present wall of confidentiality that appears prevalent! in Maryland? Any thoughts? Again thanks for the help. But in previous census years she stated Ohio as her state of birth. Her son, my great-grandfather, believed that she was born in Ohio as this is what he stated on her death record. Her mother's name was Annie Fox. She was born in Maryland. Annie married William Hoffschneider in 1885 after Jenny's father died. Annie and William Hoffschneider lived in Baltimore. Jenny's father's first name was Lewis. He, too, was born in Maryland. Jenny told everyone that her maiden name was Ensminger. But her brother's name was Charles Rent and Jenny's oldest daughter, Ethel, always maintained that Rent was Jenny's true maiden name. Interestingly, the 1880 census shows a Lewis Rent living in Boonsboro, Maryland. Sadly, I cannot find Jenny or her mother, Annie, in the 1880 census... or the 1870 census for that matter. I would expect to find them in Frederick or Washington Counties or Baltimore City. But I wouldn't rule out Ohio or Pennsylvania either. Thank you for your help. I did a search for DeRonde. Margaret was arrested for taking small amounts of money under false pretenses. She said she was 26 and lived in the 500 block of Savage Street. (Sun, Jan 8, 1939). A Lloyd DeRonde was held for narcotics theft in 1926. A Page DeRonde Cranford passed the bar Exam in 1964. And a jockey named DeRonde was listed almost everyday in the race results in the 1913-15 period. That was all that came up on DeRonde. The church and its various buildings were on Front Street. I found the parish priests (Didier, Ahern and Andreis) on lines 42-44 of Ancestry's image 49. The Male Orphan Asylum starts on image 52. I have a book on the history of the parish and could not find any mention of a convent. It stated that in the 1850's, the nuns teaching the school were not paid and had to live with families nearby. A St. Vincent's Female Home existed in the 1850's, but it doesn't look like it was still around in 1880. Good luck in the search. I need to know if there's anything on a Doris A. DeRonde, born somewhere about Feb or Mar 1940. Parents Roy and Margaret. Or anything at all about any of them?
