April 27, 1941 d. December 1976 (family records and SSDI) - Charles William Greb (great-grandfather) b. either April (family records) or May (WWI & II draft cards) 17, 1995 - My great-grandmother we've go an "I think her name was Marie" with a more tenuous last name of "Gartner?" - Frieda Greb (my step-great-grandmother) - Matches up with my great-grandfathers WWII draft card. On Ancestry sources I've come up with are mostly the sensus records. For CW I've found the 1910, `20, `30, and `40 pages - I think. - 1910 has him living in his uncle's household. - 1920 has him living in the household of his father in-law Herman Schindle, with his wife Catherine and son John. - 1930 has him living in the household of his father in-law Harold Gartner, with his son John C and listed as "Divorced". This one also uses the variant spelling "Grebb". - 1940 has him living in his own home with his wife Freda. With regard to the two sources you pointed me to... I come up with 1 match for CW in the marriage index, but the age and spouse are off - Date of marriage is Dec 11, 1911 for Charles Greb (24) and Mary E Hallay (20) (record 552) Form the city birth record index, 1914, there is a birth recorded on April 24 to a Charles and Reina Greb. Some are online. Go to the main page, then look for the link to "Reference and Research" for links to lists and descriptions of what they have. They have so much information it is not always easy to find and use. Much of it has only recently been put online and they continue to add more. You can find the Baltimore City Male Marriage Index from 1886-1914 here. http://guide.mdsa.net/series.cfm?action=viewSeries&ID=T2426 This is identified as Series T2426 I believe later years may not be indexed. Series CM1124 has a City birth record index here: http://guide.mdsa.net/series.cfm?action=viewSeries&ID=CM1134 This has births by year, listing only the parents married names and the birth certificate number. After the first letter in the surname, they are sorted by the first vowel and then chronologically from Jan to Dec. If you find a certificate number, some are available; but read the restrictions and instructions for ordering. The State Archives also has some church records (marriage and baptism). If you post exactly what you have found, you might get other suggestions. John Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Right now I've got some rough information based, but I'm running into conflicting info from the 1920, placing her name as Schindle, and 1930, placing it as Gartner. It looks like it could be sorted with birth registry information from 1914, marriage info from ~5-7 years prior to that, and/or divorce records leading up to 1930. Anyone know some place on-line I can poke around for that info? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. There might be some information available through that. I would also contact the Baltimore County Historical Society through their website and also look at the available information they have on their site. I did put a post on the Baltimore County message board after you sent me information. I'm still learning and not intimately familiar with the Baltimore City/County area yet. As a child, we visited often. I don't know what local paper might have been in Reisterstown/Owings Mills at the time. A friend sent me a list of epidemics from 1629 to 1919. There wasn't one in Maryland, but there was a smallpox one in Philadelphia, NY, Boston, and New Orleans. I really do appreciate your help. Sorry there wasn't one for the grandfather. I wonder if there was a small local paper in the area where he lived that might have had an obit. The Enoch Pratt Library in Baltimore (central) has a very nice collection of newspapers. You might want to consider contacting them. You can email them from their website. Also, have you tried contacting whoever is in charge of the cemetery to see if there are any records available there? Good luck with your research! It wasn't much but it told me how destitute Thomas was-he came to Little Sisters with one pair of pants and three shirts. Try calling them and see if they can help you. Good luck. Oddly enough there was not one for her grandfather. I wonder if it was just a coincidence that they died the same day.
