Hello List! I am trying to obtain cemetery records from the 1st Evangelical Cemetery. I have written twice to them with never a response. Has anyone else had any luck in obtaining records from there? Liz

I copied the info about downloading the map. Download Digital Images No special viewers are required to view maps in the American Memory collections. American Memory maps are presented, via your browser, as .gif (Graphics Interchange Format) files. A compression technology, called MrSID (Multi-Resolution Seamless Image Database) developed by LizardTech, allows you to zoom in or out on an area of the map that you wish to inspect. Maps are stored in .sid format. The MrSID .sid files of American Memory maps are available to download to your computer. The download option is available at the bottom of the "Zoom View" page for each map. The average size of files in the .sid format is 5 megabytes.

Believe me - I am no computer expert, but I was told (or read somewhere) that if you have the Enhanced Image Viewer that is used for Ancestry.com that this will open the maps. There's a different viewer required to open them if you save them to your computer.

Tia, The Little Gunpowder Post Office was located on the Philadelphia Turnpike, now Philadelphia Road, just south of the Gunpowder Falls. That was in District 11 in Baltimore County. But the Postal areas used in the Census often covered a very large area, sometimes covering more than one election district. So your ancestor may not have lived too close to the actual Post Office. You can find a name-searchable map of the entire state and drill down to the 11th District at: http://mdslavery.net/html/mapped_images/mapsindex.html The Post Office is in the far right of the District 11 map. The Baltimore County parts of the map are from 1865. If you are looking for someone that owned a large property, make sure you scroll down to the search feature. If you search online, you should also be able to purchase the Hopkins 1876 Atlas of Baltimore County, which has even more detailed maps. It only costs about $15 or so. Lynn, The records for Holy Rosary and many other Catholic Churches in Baltimore are on microfilm at the MD State Archives. Here is a link to the list of 10 films from Holy Rosary. It looks like they only have the deaths up to 1953, on film # M3617. http://speccol.mdarchives.state.md.us/msa/speccol/catalog/cfm/dsp_film.cfm?s peccol=2701 I looked for Vincent in the Baltimore City and the County online death indexes and did not find him listed in 1942. The Baltimore City Index lists a Florence Brulinski that died in 1972, but no others. She died Aug 17, 1942, at the age of 48, certificate # 7885. Hi, I am running into a major brick wall here. I am trying to find a death certificate for a Wilbert Smith. Or for that matter anything at this point. He was born abt 1901-1903 in MD, supposedly on the eastern shore. Maybe Dorchester co. He died supposedly in 1954 in Baltimore city and is buried in Mt Carmel cemetery. I looked through the death indexes for 5 years before and after and didn't find anything.I found him in the 1930 census living on Aliceanna Ave with his wife Margaret Esler. In the 1920 census he is living with his mother Anna Baggett on Eden St. I know she had remarried but I don't know his fathers name. I have gotten death certificates for Willams and Wibur Smith's that died about that time and would be the right age. So far none have been him. Any suggestions?? Thanks Lynn
Richard, If your local library does so, maybe you can arrange for an inter-library loan of the "Baltimore County Atlas 1877". Below is the website which will take you to the info page for this book: http://carlweb.bcpl.lib.md.us/cgi-bin/cw_cgi?fullRecord+26228+725+89999+1+0 Good luck with your search. My ancestors were listed as living in that precinct and their house was located in the area that is now known as Parkville. I'm sure it included a lot more area in those days, though, like Carney and probably up to the Falls.
