Hi Rose, It sure does help!!! Thank you very much. I checked the later Census for Prendergast family and the location of St. Bridget Catholic Church. It looks as though it is very possible that my Prendergast could have belonged to St. Bridget church. My gr-grandmother Frances Winifred Prendergast was the first to be born in USA ca 1850 from Ireland. Her Baptism could have been held there at St. Bridget church. I will check with them. I have tried several other Irish congregation parishes but they have closed. One of the Prendergast sons ---John/Patrick , I believe, married an Annie O"Donnell. She was deceased in 1910 census but her mother & sisters were still living with Prendergast This find gives me a new possible source for information. Thanks again Take Care & Good Luck in all your searches Pat H. in western MD.
Elizabeth W. wrote: "I saw your post and wanted to ask you about your Davis's. I also have Davis in my family and they are from Baltimore." Liz: It is only assumed, not proven, that we have a DAVIS in our tree. This assumption is made from RICHARD CRISWELL's Rev. War pension petition. where a witness, SUSANNAH GOSSAGE, (nee DAVIS) refers to RICHARD CRISWELL as her uncle. RICHARD CRISWELL served a 2nd tour in MD as a substitute for his "brother" ANDREW. RICHARD did not have a brother, ANDREW & apparently, the term "brother" could mean "brother-in- law back in those days. I am trying to find out what the name of RICHARD's wife was, but most researches refer to her as unknown DAVIS. Some think that her given name was RACHEL or REBECCA. Her name is given as unknown DAVIS in SAR records, although no one has become a member using RICHARD CRISWELL as a patriot. Do you know of a JEHU DAVIS or JEHU LANE? Thanks for asking. -Donna Mollaun
Our Weire line arrived in America from Ebershuets, Germany or Hesse Kassel in 1832, according to an obituary from 1900, a bio printed in 1937 and census records. They arrived with four children and in 1836 my ggggrandfather was born in Baltimore, MD according to the Civil War pension papers filled out by him. The family moved to York Co., PA had three more children and then moved to Van Buren Co., IA and had their last son. A daughter married in York Co., PA in a Lutheran Church in 1846 and one of the eldest sons was a minister in a German Methodist Church in Van Buren Co., IA. This all being stated to lead to finding the possible church in which the son born in Baltimore, MD might have been baptized. If anyone on the list can advise me, what churches were in existence and still continue to have records from baptisms in the year 1836. I am looking for a baptism for William H. Weire born 28 February 1836. Parents: Christian Ludwig Weire and Maria Wilhelmina Stebensen Weire they are both listed as born in Ebershuets, Germany and Hesse Kassel is listed on the census. Any advice would be appreciated. Regards, Virginia L. Aldridge Evansville IN

Babe is listed on page one. I'll bet that the census was taken by dorm and would have boys of Babe's age in the same dorm.

If you place the pointer over the pic, the date is indicated as 1912. Ruth would have been 17. As for the names of the the others, youmight try the 1910 census, search for Ruth, and you will come up with St. Mary's look for boys of a similar age. That's the best I can do. www.wm.edu/amst/370/1998/babe/amst370_2.html

The 2 banners over their heads say "Red Sox Champs," but I can't read the year. None of the boys, other than the Babe, are named. Are there any baseball or Ruth fans out there who could tell me what year St. Mary's Red Sox won the championship? Also, how could I find out the names of his teammates in that picture?
I'm planning a trip there next weekend. Have you checked the Maryland Archives. They have some information on Churches etc.
My ancestors: James Henry Smith and Temperance Mason were married in Baltimore, Maryland, February 22, 1849, by the Rev. Mr. Stevenson. Does anyone know what affiliation the good Rev. belonged to or what church he represented. Thank you, Nancy

The Woods, at least, (I am in no way an expert here) have both professional and residential. The residential can be spotty--listing was voluntary, and not all people chose to participate. You may find someone one year and not the next. There were a variety of reasons for this--fear of conscription during the Civil War, fear of taxation, whatever--like they didn't find you! The directories, however, are a marvelous source for showing mobility, exact address, and , in 1890, a substitute for the census. The archives is the best on-line source that i have found, but they are not complete. If in Maryland, the Enoch Pratt, the Maryland Hidtorical Society, and the Towson branch of the Baltimore County Library all have microfilm.

Rhonda: My grandparents were married by a W. McKenney, Pastor at Strawbridge M.E. (Methodist Episcopal) Church in Baltimore. The year was 1891. If this is the McKenney you are searching for, possibly Lovely Lane may have some information. He would have been quite young when he was appointed Navy Chaplain, however. Hello Oler Researchers, Family lore has it that Winfield OLER (born about 1861) left Baltimore, Maryland for the gold fields of Alaska and was never heard from again. Taking the challenge, I have learned that he sailed from San Francisco in June of 1891, and went to Nome, Alaska where he purchased No. 29 Eldoado Quartz mine in 1896 while living in Forty Mile, Alaska. However, it didn't pan out for him, and he sold the mine. On the 1880 Census, he is living in Baltimore with his family. On the 1910 Census, he is living in Suisun, Solano, California and on the 1920 Census; he is living in Circle, Alaska Territory. The last official record I have for him is in the Fairbanks Newspaper: He was found on a passenger list of persons taking the Tony Trate Auto Stage on October 8, 1920, from Fairbanks, Alaska Territory, to the Chitina Railroad Terminal. I can't find him on the 1900 Census and believe he has died before the 1930 Census. If anyone has any information on Winfield, I'd really appreciate hearing from you. Thanks, Nancy
