That would give you Catherine's maiden name. If you are lucky, the baptismal records MIGHT have the county they were from. I have found this in some records from the 1870's--not all, but some.

Surnames: Detmer, Breckinan ?, Kleine, Dyckhus (Dickhaus), Luken, Enneking Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/AFB.2ACI/4758 Message Board Post: I am trying to see if there was a DETMER family living and doing business as merchant tailors in the city around 1800-1820. Son was G.H. Detmer born about 1799 and he immigrated from Germany with his parents about 1805. Do not have any immigration records. Catholic. Father may have been Gerhardt or Henry Detmer. By 1834 GH Detmer appears in Cleveland as a merchant tailor (census records indicate immigration 1834, but family history indicates he was in Baltimore where he learned his trade and opened his own shop by age 19--which would have been about 1818 +/-. Very possible that he returned to homeland to find a wife (and parents also returning to homeland) and then returning. Possible area of Germany near Damme, Osnabruck or Hannover. Would like a 1800, 1810 and 1820 US census lookup. Also a check for a business (Gazetteer) listing in the city would be helpful between 1800-1820. Thank you in advance. Pat

    1. Re: [MD-BALTIMORECITY] need suggestion to determine parents
    2. There are a lot of possibilities here but the top two are: 1. Locate a record of burial from the church. Depending on the denomination and time frame, you might find all of your answers. 2. Find an obituary (not the death notice!) If you provide a little more detail, such as residence, cemetery, denomination, etc a lot more specific suggestions could be made. Surnames: Weire, Wire, Weihr, Weyer, Wyhr Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/AFB.2ACI/4757 Message Board Post: Our Weire line arrived in America from Ebershuets, Germany or Hesse Kassel in 1832, according to an obituary from 1900, a bio printed in 1937 and census records. They arrived with four children and in 1836 my ggggrandfather was born in Baltimore, MD according to the Civil War pension papers filled out by him. The family moved to York Co., PA had three more children and then moved to Van Buren Co., IA and had their last son. A daughter married in York Co., PA in a Lutheran Church in 1846 and one of the eldest sons was a minister in a German Methodist Church in Van Buren Co., IA. This all being stated to lead to finding the possible church in which the son born in Baltimore, MD might have been baptised. If anyone on the list can advise me, what churches were in existence and still continue to have records from baptisms in the year 1836. I am looking for a baptism for William H. Weire born 28 February 1836. Parents: Christian Ludwig Weire and Maria Wilhelmina Stebensen Weire they are both listed as born in Ebershuets, Germany on their grave marker and Hesse Kassel is listed on the census. Any advice would be appreciated. Regards, Virginia L. Aldridge Evansville IN

However, I have exhausted nearly everything you sugested. While I am confident that this is my ancester(s) I have no real proof the passengers on the Louisa were siblings. They were adults when they came to America, however, there is quite a seperation between the oldest and youngest. Also, the family "legend" is that there may have been cousins and/or brothers coming to America. Church records are limited but available, they offered no help in the marriage info. since parental info. was not recorded in the St. James records. Do City marriage cert. exist from the 1850's and do they list parentage of the applicants? Did everyone get a cert. from the City back then? Cemetery records were helpful in other areas, but no real info. regarding parentage was recorded. Naturalization records were also found but not much help on family members is recorde there also. The persons that came over on the same boat did not all apply for citizenship at th! e same time I think. Maybe the marriage cert. might be the best hope. What do you think?

Do you have that info? I can send you the image if you need it. You could find other confirmation anywhere, so you need to check everything you can. To go back to Bavaria, you need the town they came from. I quickly found him and some siblings in most censuses from 1850-1880, sometimes spelled wrong. You have his death certificate with date of death. Some suggestions, some maybe not easy to get, but possibly available: -check the cemetery for others buried there -check newspaper death notices and obituaries in Baltimore Sun and Der Deutsche Correspondent, the major German-language newspaper in Baltimore. Both are at the main Pratt Library. -church records. They lived at the corner of East Eager & Aisquith St in 1880. -naturalization records, especially if there is a Declaration of Intent (in most cases, they have been destroyed, but I have found them occasionally) -look for all the same for the siblings John
