I wouldn't be so quick to say that this is not the same person. My GGUncle's name was John Henry Gelwicks. He was captured and imprisoned in Andersonville but was later transferred to Charleston Prison where he died. I searched for his grave and finally found it at Beaufort, SC. under the name of T.H. Gallanicks. JD Rodgers The VA's National Gravesite Locator (http://gravelocator.cem.va.gov/j2ee/servlet/NGL_v1) does not list an Alden Emmons. It does list an Alfred Emmons: EMMONS, ALFRED MUSC C 10 NJ INF DATE OF DEATH: 05/14/1862 BURIED AT: SITE 1863 SOLDIERS HOME NATIONAL CEMETERY Soldiers Home is in DC. Obviously not your guy, but the closest they had. This just means that he is not buried in a national cemetery (or if he is, they have no record of him). As far as I know, there is no list of all veterans buried in private cemeteries. -- Thomas M. Have the following death certificate, also have the newspaper account of the shooting. Anyone interested please email me direct - rcm92131@peoplepc.com - and I will send. Not sure about the date of death could be 13 or 18, also place of birth, looks like VA, although in 1897 I don't think they used the 2 letter abreviation for the states. Donna, What you have is indeed a pin from Mount de Sales Academy in Catonsville. Girls usually got their pins in sophomore year. At that time it was a boarding school, but not all students lived there. It was run by the Visitation nuns. If it belonged to a relative and you are interested, the school has pictures of most, if not all, of the graduating classes on display in the main hall. You might be able to have your relative's picture copied. They may have a yearbook also. Sounds like it might be from Mount de Sales High School in Baltimore. Still in existence. 700 Academy Rd, Balto, 21228, phone 410 744-8498 If you are not interested in keeping the pin, I'll bet the school would like it for their archives or to display. I checked my 1936 Baltimore City Directory under Clubs, Fraternities and even Men's Clothing categories and found nothing that would match the initials you listed. My directory has a Charles S. West with wife Etta at 3019 Erdman Ave. He is listed as a cutter. -----Original Message----- From: md-baltimorecity-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:md-baltimorecity-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of donna.carter@millenniumchem.com Sent: Saturday, December 02, 2006 4:25 PM To: MD-BaltimoreCity-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [MD-BALTIMORECITY] Baltimore Fraternities in existence around1930-1940s This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. I was really confused about what seemed like two different families, but it makes sense with the two Mary's. I descend from Ida and John Victor Sponsler's son, Bernard, who was my mother's maternal grandfather. You have much more information on the Perago line than I do, but I have some Sponsler information I'd be happy to share if you (or anybody else here) is interested. Most of my info comes from Census reports, and I don't have many secondary sources, but I'm working on that. An interesting sidenote: I saw your posts in the Curtis Drawbaugh/Zelma Zeigler thread, and I also descend from that family. Curtis and Zelma were my mom's paternal grandparents. So it seems that you and I share a lot of ancestors! Maybe we could take this discussion off-line so we can talk about people still living. You can reach me at cindydoll@verizon.net. Anybody else here is also welcome to email me privately. Thanks again! Cindy
