Thanks I am an insomanic and that will give me something to do nights I can't sleep. Thank you very much.
There might be an easier way, but this is what I have done before. In Ancestry, go to any page of the 1930 Baltimore city census. Look at the top where it says "You are here" under the Ancestry logo and click on the link that says "Baltimore (Districts 1-250"). This will give you a list of all the districts and what streets form their boundaries. Use the Edit Find feature from your tool bar to find all the occurrences of "Lexington" in the list. (I suggest you print a map of the area you are looking at so you will know what streets are in your target area.) I found Lexington in Districts 43, 44, 53, 54, 56, and 58. That's going to be a lot of pages to hunt through but it can be done. Good luck, Michele -----Original Message----- From: md-baltimorecity-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:md-baltimorecity-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Margie Sent: Tuesday, December 19, 2006 6:43 PM To: md-baltimorecity@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [MD-BALTIMORECITY] 1800 Block of W. Can you tell us the names of the people you are looking to find in the 1930 census? Their ages would help too.

Greetings to you all! This is a great opportunity that should not be passed up! As a list member of several other lists, I'd like to share what we have done in the past to accomplish just such a project. If someone with a good scanner could scan the records, they could then be delegated electronically to those of us wishing to help transcribe the records. The transcribed record data could then be uploaded into a searchable database online, or at the least, create searchable PDF files and those of us willing to conduct such searches, could look up names of loved ones for those interested and pass along the search results. "Many hands make light work" is a great old adage to apply here. In the alternative, I have a fantastic scanner if someone was willing to photocopy the card file and send it to me, I would be more than happy to coordinate the project or help in any way. Please let me know your thoughts. Feel free to email me privately at "sconner4@neo.rr.com" if you prefer. Does any body know the district that this address was in during the 1930 census. I have a relative that lived there but can't find them by the search index for ancestry. I want to do a browse in case they messed the name up.

Bill and Kathy: It looks like Kathleen has already contacted Rev. Tichnor and is set to start working on the project. You might want to e mail her on the list and off and perhaps you all could share the project, if you took the photos. Taking the photos is a very large project even though the cemetary is medium sized. It is the most beautiful place. There are stones that need cleaning and restoration to read them also. We tried to take rubbings but because of the moss, we failed. I think there were Gambrills in the cemetary and some of others I was searching. The Gambrills seem to everywhere in Southern Maryland. Thank you so much for offering to help. Contact Kathleen Bowen on the list and Kathy Jones-Hudson on protocol for the Tombstone project. I wish I could help but I am back in Washington now. Letty, Kathy & All others :-) I just spoke with Rev. Tichnor at St. James Church in Lothian (Anne Arundel Co.). I am meeting him in the early afternoon of Dec. 26 to get the cards to enter. If the weather is decent, I will also begin photographing all of the grave stones. I hope to have all entered by the New Year. As the Rev. mentioned, sometimes things come up in his work, so he may have to adjust our meeting should he have a parishioner need him. Additionally, my daughter is expecting her third child in late January, so anything can happen... I look forward to sharing it all as soon as possible. I can probably do some of this next week between Christmas and New Year's. I have a decent digital camera and can certainly photograph the sites. as for the data entry, I can do that over several evenings into early January. I will call the church latyer today. My DRURY ancestors lived in the Lothian area before a branch went to D.C. Hi to the list: I just returned from Baltimore to visit cousins and did some genealogy while I was there. We spent two days in Anne Arundel County. We visited St. James Church and cemetary, Christ Church and cemetary and several others. I found many of my husbands relatives but didn't break down any brick walls as I still cannot find Samuel Wood, Sr. or his wife, Susanna Steuart or there ancestors. But we did find lots of info. I wanted to make a request that would make so many researchers happy. At St. James Parish in Friendship/Lothian in Anne Arundel County there is a job to be done and a volunteer with a computer could really help us all. Unfortunately I live in Washington State so I can't do it. Rev. Tichnor, the pastor, has very graciously make a card file that is alphabetical of all the graves in the cemetary. Some stones are very old and little can be deciphered but he tried to put down on the cards as much as he could. If someone could volunteer who lives in the area, they could record all the info in alphabetical order and share it with us all. It would probably take about 8 hrs total to type it in. Please, please, please, could someone on this list do that. Rev. Tichnor is a wonderful person and is very helpful. He said he didn't believe anyone had recorded the cards. I may post some other info I found later. Letty LGaia@comcast.net Washington State Baltimore native
