Sue, I contacted _lovingmus@cavtel.net_ (mailto:lovingmus@cavtel.net) to ask them who married my ggg grandfather Cornelius Willis in 1797. ''He was married in 1st ME Church in Baltimore. It was originally Lovely Lane, then Light St., then City Station, then 1st Church, now back to the original name Lovely Lane. All the records are here in our Museum as we are housed in that church." Wanda stated that the minister was Rev Nelson Reed. She also said that Baltimore County Marriages is a good book. She also stated that she would forward this to Ann Horvath, the President of Carroll County Genealogical Society. If this helps, please get back to me. John in Tennessee
I have, from the Maryland Marriage Licenses, Baltimore, MD., 1837, a Rev. REED who is listed as the Minister. Does anyone know of a way to find out what church Rev. REED was at in the City of Baltimore in 1837? Any suggestions for research would be appreciated. I am trying to find out more about the couple he married. Thank you. Sue

Indentures were written agreements, and were sometimes found as contracts whereby a parent or grandparent, (or judges of the Orphans Court) would bind a child over to a master who would agree to teach the child to read, write, and cipher to the rule of three, and to teach a specific trade within a specified time. The apprentice would agree to serve the master, to learn the trade, and not to gamble or engage in other activities that would impair his or her usefulness to his master. The indentures of the County Orphans Court contain indentures of children from many other counties, and even from outside Maryland. These County Indentures, formerly deposited at the county court houses have been accessioned at the Maryland State Archives in the original record books or on microfilm. Other record books may have been recently transferred and have not been accessioned. Please check out the Maryland State Archives website to see which counties have these records. Is anybody anywhere doing research on a Rathell line from Baltimore? My 3rd greatgrandfather, Abel G. Rathell is buried in Lexington, MS with an inscription on his tombstone saying he was born 1808 in Baltimore. Not sure if it is city or county or just "near Baltimore". Any help would be appreciated as there are no other family members doing research on my line of the family. If you can narrow down the parish in this area in which they lived--and you can do that by looking at the most recent marriage and baptismal records, then trace the parents records--you can contact the archives of the Archdiocese of Baltimore. www.stmarys.edu/archives/arc_genealogy.htm

Hi Everyone, I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and I wish you all a Blessed, Happy & Prosperous New Year! I was going to meet with Rev. Ticknor at St. James Church in Lothian on Dec. 26. On December 20, the following message was posted to these lists by Mollie Merrick King: "There is a published list of the stones at St James Parish, compiled by the Marlborough Towne Chapter of the NSDAR in 1967, and contained in the volume Tombstone Inscriptions of Southern Anne Arundel County (Gateway Press, Baltimore, 1971). This list is not alphabetized, and it would certainly be more useful to more people as an online searchable database - but these records might be a backup or second reference for stones that are hard to read. This volume also contains the records of All Hallows Church." Additionally, Rev. Ticknor left a voicemail message for me advising a gentleman had contacted him soon after I did and he was also interested in assisting with entering the data on the gravesites into a computer program to share. So, on December 26, I called Rev. Ticknor and he wasn't in but I was able to leave a voicemail message advising that on the genealogy mail lists, a message had been posted that there was already a book in print that contained the gravestone data and that I had received the Reverend's message about another contact, so before heading over to the church, I would try to review the volume cited and I would also try to contact all parties interested in working on this project before meeting with the Rev. also, regardless of the published info and getting it online in searchable format, I wanted to start photographing the cemetery in the entirety. Unfortunately, we had bad weather in A.A. Co. over Christmas, so I did not get over to the church on Tuesday, Dec. 2 because I knew the ground would b particularly sodden. So, what I am trying to determine (and please respond to me off-lists!): 1.) Does anyone have the volume cited by Ms. King in Dec. 20 ("Tombstone Inscriptions of Southern Anne Arundel County")? 2.) Who among you may be willing to do at least a portion of the photographing of the stones? I can still get the cards from Rev. Ticknor and enter them into a searchable dbase. My family, the Batchelors, were sailmakers. I don't know about an apprentices but I do know that many families' genealogy can be gleaned from the LDS Family History film copy of applications to join the War of 1812 Society. I don't know the actual # for it but I will check. Sadly, although my ancestor was a member, his records are not on the film. The 1910 Census has a Benjamin Love, born in Russia about 1880, married to Celia, born about 1891. The 1920 Census has the same couple, she listed as Cecelia. He immigrated in 1900, they married about 1908. They lived in East Baltimore. The 1910 Census also has a Benjamin F Love, born about 1867, married to Mary G. about 1898. They are also listed in the 1900 Census. Mary was born in 1876. They had 5 kids in 1910. The 1900 Census lists two sons, but one of them was not Mary's, so Mary was Benjamin's second wife. In 1920, the oldest daughter (Mercedes) was a boarder by herself. I could not find the rest of Benjamin's family in 1920; but in 1930, he was living with apparent wife number 3 (Elizabeth) and several of his children. So it is probable that Mary died between 1910 and 1930. Two suggestions, both at the MD State Archives: 1. They have marriage indexes for some jurisdictions for some years, with Baltimore City being the most complete. Benjamin & Mary lived in District 9 in Baltimore County and you may not find it if that is where they married. You can see what they have at http://www.msa.md.gov/msa/refserv/indexes/html/marriage.html 2. Look for Mary Love's Death Certificate. Check the online index at: http://mdvitalrec.net/cfm/dsp_search.cfm John -----Original Message----- From: md-baltimorecity-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:md-baltimorecity-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Patscga@aol.com Sent: Tuesday, December 26, 2006 4:48 PM To: md-baltimorecity-l@rootsweb.com Subject: [MD-BALTIMORECITY] Help With Marriage Needed I have an ancestor whose obituary states that she has a sister, Mrs. Benjamin Love.
