The National Archives has plans to raise, quite unreasonably, their costs for many documents. The cost for a full CW pension is currently $37. These files are a gold mine of genealogy information. They are also planning to raise the rates for many other types of file copies. For all of the good it might do, comments are due at NARA by April 27th. Follow the link in the article. Please pass this on to any of your other lists. http://genealogyblog.com/national-archives-of-the-usa/nara-proposes-new-and-much-higher-mail-order-rates-5862 Here is the information from the link above. Nancy Lynn The only Miller family I have is VERY early. He is a old man even during the Revolution. He lived in eastern Pennsylvania and then moved to the Frederick area of Maryland. One of his daughters, Eleanor, married Peter B. Suman who also lived in eastern PA and moved to the Frederick area where he was executed in 1781 as a traitor---but that is a whole other story. Do you have any information on Jacob MUELLER/MILLER born 13 Mar 1827 in Ellershausen, Frankenau, Hessen-Nassau who moved to Baltimore sometime before 1867? In 1908 either Jacob or his family owned a furniture store. I have a flow-blue plate sent to my husband's grandparents, Ida (Schmidt) and Albert Kortge, on the occasion of their wedding in West Salem, Illinois. Thanks. Do you think the name might have been spelled Segrist... I found a Gertrude M. Segrist 19 who married a James Potter 21 both from Baltimore on 9 April 1923. It was on the Howard County Historical website. A lot of couples from Baltimore went to Howard County because of the waiting period.
Help! I am trying to contact any of the Sigrist sisters or their descendants. Helene, Doris and Mary Sigrist of Baltimore were all born between 1928 and 1931, so probably would have married in the 1950's if they did marry. How might I determine who they married or if they have any living descendants? Thank you.... Jim McLoughlin The Woodlands, Tx. -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition. I just found a new library/archive located in Baltimore that I do not think most people know about. The Maryland Museum of Military History. Located in the Fifth Regiment Armory ( a Baltimore landmark building), it houses a large library of books and a large archive of records. I now work for the Maryland Military Department (DMIL) for the Maryland Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) and went down to the Armory to see their display on the Holocaust. The display is just so-so but when I saw the library and had to ask about what they have. While their records mainly feature the Maryland National Guard, the records include a wealth of information on any military person from the State of Maryland going all the way back to its creation. They have pictures, detailed active duty records and much much more. They are open Tuesday through Friday 9am to 3pm and are FREE. They will even copy items for you free (or they did for me). While they say parking is available, it is very limited is proably the only negative thing I would say about the place. You can call them at 410-576-1496 and speak with the archivist. I do not know how much they will help over the phone but if you are in Baltimore and want another resource to tap into for family information, think of this place. You never know what you might find! I found some really neat information about a WWI relative--never knew he was actually classified as National Guard. BTW-During times of war, the National Guard is considered "regular" army. Who would have thunk it? >From England to Maryland by the early 1700's and still Maryland. The John I am looking for is a relation of Barbara and her children, but I do not know how. I think that John may have come to America in advance of other family members since they all lived together in the 1850 census. According to census records, John A. Batzer was 22 in 1841 when he arrived in Baltimore from Germany. He was bor in 1819 in Bavaria. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
