    3. Gary: I am not a member of GenealogyBank.com but would love access to the Baltimore Sun for that time period. I have a very elusive ancestor that may very well appear in there at some point. Do you find the fee for this service worthwhile? What else might I find on that site that I would not find elsewhere? Several years ago, I purchased approximately 16 rolls of microfilm from the State Archives in Annapolis and have gotten loads of information from them. As you all know by now, such purchases can no longer be made. Instead, we are offered CD's of those records at about $40.00 per CD. Since hauling CD's to a local library to view them is a bother, I decided to find a company who would convert those microfilm records to CD's which would then allow me to view them on my computer. I first searched on line to find such a company and was not encouraged by the prices to do so. Luckily, I found a small company in the Baltimore area who agreed to do the conversion for a reasonable price. After converting about five of the microfilm rolls to CD's, they told me that the remaining rolls could not be done since their contents were not unifomly arranged. Although I accepted the excuse, I still believe that they had quoted a price that was not profitable and wished to end the arrangement. I never did find another company to do the remaining rolls at an acceptable price. As for the five rolls that were put on CD, they were excellent and saved many trips to the libraries nearby. At the time that I viewed these CD's, my computer's OS was Win 98 part of whose package was Kodal Imaging. I have since gone to a new computer running Win XP which does not have Kodak Imaging as part of it's system. Result----I can no longer view the CD's. If you can see the filenames on the CDs, you can also Google for the extensions to find out what programs will read them. A free one that is very popular is Irfanview, but Google will find you dozens more. It even converts many file formats, if that is what you want to do. One of the purchased programs that I have used to convert file formats is ACDSee. I have an older version that converts just about everything. It's in the moderate price range, but you will no doubt find similar programs at every price level through your search. Good luck with working this out. I sure wish I had bought more films before the MSA stopped selling them. Rose > Has anyone else tried to do this type of conversion? If so, can you > recommend a company that would do it? They had two children who were born in Baltimore 10 years apart, Margaret Brandmueller (b. Nov 28 1850) and John M. (b. abt. Oct 1860). I'm looking for any more information. I don't know when they were married but I believe it was in Baltimore as they immigrated separately as far as I have been able to tell (both were born about 1825 in Bavaria). Sometime between 1860 and 1870 Johanna died and George brought the two children to Wisconsin. I want to try to find her death certificate as well. There are a lot of unknowns with this family so far. If anybody could help with finding any of this information I would be very grateful! Thanks! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. Hello Frank, I use Microsoft Digital Image and it will view many, many types of image files. The .tiff is used to keep the original in good format. You can convert your tiff to a jpg or whatever you want to convert it to. Someone mentioned ACDsee and that is also a good program and cheaper than the Microsoft digital image. By the way, what part of Baltimore are these CD's for. What would you sell a copy of the CD's for? Some of my ancestors lived in Baltimore before they came into Washington DC. Anyway good luck with your CD's. I certainly would not pay a company to convert the images. If you can afford to put some money into a program that is you best bet. There are many out there and some are cheaper than others. I love my Microsoft Digital Image but I also used ADCsee from the time it came out to about a couple of years ago. I have not found any info on GE in Baltimore at anytime, so am not certain of this fact. He is in 1920 census in Schenectady, NY with wife Teresa E. Their children were born in Baltimore: Dau Marion Bemis Bowen on 6/14/21 and Son Robert Emmett Bowen on 11/28/22. They left Baltimore before 1925, so no census data would be available. If anyone could please do a look up for the birth of Marion or Robert, am hoping it could lead to their address and Daniel Bowen's employer. I am located in Buffalo NY and would be happy to reciprocate in any way I can. Thank you in advance for any assistance Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
