I have been reading this list and seen a lot of very helpful researchers so I am hoping I may be able to get some help also. I found George CULLIDON & family in the 1800 census in Baltimore City - don't know street address ? >From the directories I have found the following entries: 1800 soap & candle manufacturer, 1802 soap boiler, 1803 soap boiler & candle manufacturer, Conowago Street, Baltimore Town, Maryland 1807-08 grocery & liquor store, 27 Market Space, Baltimore town 1810 liquor store, 27 Market Space, East Side, Baltimore town, Maryland 1812 groceries & liquor store, 17 Harrison Street, Baltimore Town, Maryland 1814 grocer, 17 Harrison Street, Baltimore town, Maryland I am aware that directories are not all that reliable but this does seem that the CULLIDON family was here for at least some of this time. Many thanks for taking the time to read my message. Regards from Valerie in sunny Sydney. I hope this message is not too long but I have set it out with all my sources in the hope that it may help someone else. I do hope someone will be able to make sense of this family or families please ? Cheers from Valerie in sunny Sydney -----Original Message----- From: Valerie B Garton [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Monday, 13 September 2010 2:39 PM To: 'Val' Subject: RE: [MD-BALTIMORECITY] CULLODEN's - who were they and where did they go ? Hi Kathy and sorry for the delay with my reply. This is mainly because I am so confused with this family. First record I found was the 1800 census which stated: 1800 US census Geo CULLENDEN, 1 male 10-15 [1785-1790, 1 male 16-25 [1775-1784], 1 male 26-44 [1756-1774], 1 male over 45 [bef 1755], 1 female under 10 [bef 1790], 1 female 10-16 [1775-1784], 1 female 16-44 [1756-1799]. I will assume male over 45 to be Geo and female 16-44 to be Mary aged about 43 see later research. So who are the others ? Some helpful records are church records of baptism, confirmation, marriage, & death cemetery sexton's and stonesetter's records landowner's atlases and land transfers or lawsuits among relatives local and family histories, & birth and death certificates (usually beginning around 1900). John VINUP (11 July 1900 - Apr. 1982, Essex, Balto., MD) per SSDI, online. Have you checked whether there was probate or an obituary for him? If necessary, you can order his application for Social Security. That should name his parents. See SSDI, online. You can begin by following the censuses for clues. In 1930, there were VINUP: John [M/ N?], 29; Mary. There was a John V., 5, but the free database at "1930 census" doesn't place children with parents. The actual census does. Some public libraries have access to the censuses through Ancestry, or you can use the free trial membership, but beware that you have to give them your credit card number and then cancel in time by phone during their business hours. In 1920, Baltimore, VINUP: John M., 19. See the actual census for the family. In 1910, VINUP, John, 42, b. MD; Barbara, 41; Frederick R., 16; John, 10. In 1900, VINUP Lena, b.
