Author: knort4 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.maryland.counties.baltimorecity/8043/mb.ashx Message Board Post: ANNA M. CROWE of Baltimore, MD (Dec. 21, 2010)?I?m trying to locate ANNA M. CROWE who lived at 1124 Montpelier St, Baltimore, MD 21218 until 1983 when she sold that residence. Anna?s mother was MARY H. CROWE (Mary died in 1953). Anna has a sister, HELEN A. CROWE. I have no way of knowing whether Anna is alive or deceased, or whether she ever married. I want to notify Anna or her family about a modest inheritance worth a few thousand dollars that she is eligible to receive. If there is a genealogist or Crowe family member who can help me find out one or more of the following pieces of information, please contact me by e-mail or by postal mail. (1) Anna?s date of birth, her father?s name (2) Helen?s date of birth, her father?s name (3) Mary H. Crowe?s exact date of death in 1953, city/or county of death, her date of birth, her husband?s name. Could you call or visit the Register of Wills Office to see if there is a probate file for Mary that would have her last will and testament and one of the pages in the file would also show street addresses for Mary and her beneficiaries? Thank you. Author: durvin146 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.maryland.counties.baltimorecity/8041.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Thanks for the reply. Someone very kindly looked up the Army's record of his burial in France. His family requested that his body be brought home for burial in the U. S. His parents refused an offer to have him buried in a National (military) Cemetery. No death certificate was provided in the (20 pages) of Army documents - my guess is that any Army death certificate would say burial in an Army cemetery in France. I have also been searching for an obituary - either in 1918 when he died, or in 1920 when he was reburied. I agree with you that he may be in one of the cemeteries I have checked, but the record may be incomplete/incorrect. I appreciate your input - and any other suggestions you or anyone else may have. Author: durvin146 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.maryland.counties.baltimorecity/8041/mb.ashx Message Board Post: My mother's side of the family came from Stupno, Bohemia, Austria. Her grandfather Charles Zeman Sr. came to the U.S with his family around 1903-1907 and they settled around Baltimore, MD. They lived on Cherry Street in Curtis Bay. The 1910 census lists them for Anne Arundal County. I have been researching the family and found that one of my granduncles, Charles Zeman Jr. (born 12 Nov. 1893 in Stupno)was in the U. S. army in WWI and died in France (7 Sept. 1918). Later his body was returned to the U. S. and arrived 'home' in Curtis Bay on 5 October 1920. I have been searching the surrounding cemetery records online for any cemetery in Anne Arundel Co., Baltimore Co., and Baltimore City. The family was Catholic so I have been concentrating on Catholic cemeteries. I did find a Bohemian cemetery in Baltimore City but did not find his name. I would appreciate any help in locating his grave. Thank you. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: The_Cohens Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.maryland.counties.baltimorecity/1528.3/mb.ashx Message Board Post: If you are having trouble finding Ellis Island Manifests, then try finding naturalizations records. The Declaration of Intention and Petition for Naturalization are supposed to say town born. And also should include name of ship and date and port of arrival. In my own research on other families, I am finding manifests on which the surnames are totally mistranscribed, but if you know which ship and the date, you may be able to find someone on a manifest by looking at the full passenger list. But be aware there are other blatant mistakes on the manifests as well, so it is best to get more than one record that includes birthplace. Another place to check are Hamburg passenger lists if they embarked from Germany. And if any male ancestors were born 1872-1900, look for their WW1 Draft registration cards. Some versions of that form will tell you town born. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I'm just now discovering cousins I never knew existed. I am not really sure as to the point of origin in Italy of my ancestors. Dad says they came from Florence, but he's not sure. He also says they came through Ellis Island, but I can find no record of this. They were Domenic Defazio and Elizabeth Bonadio (my paternal great-grandparents), who came to America with their children Samuel and Rose. Samuel married Mildred Taylor (my grandparents) and Rose married Joe Decilveo. I realize the Defazio surname is fairly common on the east coast, and there are very many in the Philadelphia and Pittsburgh areas. Not sure of any relationships, but then again I have only just begun my research on dad's family. I will let you know if I find any connections.
