As stated in my other post, he was institutionalized at Mount Hope Retreat, where he died from Epelicta. His sister Frances paid for his care till his death. Thanks so much for the info for my G-Grandmother (Clara Marie) and also my G-Uncle (Anton Carny). I appreciate you taking the time to send a copy of the original obit from the Baltimore newspaper!!! You rock! Any ideas about my G-Uncle, Frank Soboda (Swoboda)? Can you give me the Maryland archives site to search? Guess that may be my only recourse assuming he stayed in Maryland. Not sure he did, as my grandmother said that her brother more than likely moved to a wamer climate. Any Ideas about "Uncle" Frank and where to look will be GREATLY appreciated!! Thanks again for what you have sent! I did not have those obits for either Clara, nor Anton. Assume I can get death certificates now from the State of MD for both! Thank You! 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: Drhema Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.maryland.counties.baltimorecity/8072.1.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The Enoch Pratt Library, Maryland Department has a fifteen page booklet about this cemetery and the removals when it was sold for the purpose of widening Pulaski Highway. The booklet was compiled by Laura Catherine Auld Lafoe, Genealogical Chairman, Janet Montgomery Chapter of the Maryland State Society in 1960. I made a photocopy during my visit to Maryland. My ancestors were buried in this Methodist Episcopal cemetery and moved to Oaklawn Cemetery. The booklet contains the names of 1,024 of the 2,777 bodies moved to Oaklawn. The following text is from the booklet: On the 12th of August, 1916, a Bill of Complaint was filed in the Circuit Court of Baltimore City for the condemnation and sale of the Methodist Burial Ground, then located on the Philadelphia Road (now Pulaski Highway) and Potomac Street, in the then extreme end of Baltimore City. Prior to 1850 this was just over the border of Baltimore County and City. Trustees were appointed by the Court.... The Oaklawn Cemetery of Baltimore was designated to receive and re-inter the bodies remaining in the cemetery. From 1916 to 1935 it is assumed that near relatives and descendants were located in some instances and that some bodies were removed and interred in other cemeteries. Checking with the Oaklawn Cemetery during this research it was determined that these bodies were buried there but no record can be found of any names or the number re-interred. The Superintendent "thought" that there was close to three thousand. The booklet also contains names of some lot holders. Here is the Enoch Pratt listing: Record of the old Methodist Burial Ground once located on the Old Philadelphia Road and Potomac Street. [Baltimore], LaFoe, Laura Catherine Auld, F189.9.M4L2Q, 1960, 1 copy available at Maryland Department in Noncirculating Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. They are probably the most knowledgeable regarding Methodist churches and records. http://www.lovelylanemuseum.org/ I suggest you have your ancestor's address or approximately where they lived when you contact them. That might help identify church records and possibly the cemetery. They may very well know of a cemetery that went by that name.
