I'm really glad to see that Christine has posted death notices from Der Deutsche Correspondent to this and other local lists. The DDR and other German-American 19th-century newspapers (there were about 10 or more through the century) are very rich sources of information often not found in the English language dailies. Not only death notices, but the German papers are a great source for obituaries (not the difference!) and news articles that detail every aspect of German life in the city. For those interested, I have a new book coming out later this year which indexes not only death notices but all articles relevant to family history information (marriages, divorces, fraternal societies, birthdays, anniversaries, etc) from Der Deutsche Correspondent between 1879 and 1883. The extraction/transcription work is done, but I have a long way to go to get everything in a useable format. Hopefully it will come out later this year ...
