Does anyone have any information about the families/graves that are off the right-hand side of the main road through Wenona, Maryland (Somerset County near Deal Island), in a thicket down near the marina. There is a lane leading through the Daniels' property and to the left of that lane are the subject graves. The first time my sister and I visited these graves, Mr. Daniels was in his yard and he came over and talked with us. He related that the Daniel folks were his ancestors (current day spelling Daniels). He said that his Grandmother was either related to the Windsor lady (Rebecca Windsor) buried there or that she would know the family connections. Unfortunately, we have never been given the opportunity to talk with this lady. It is likewise unfortunate that folks are quite often reluctant to share information. They do not understand that they may be the last living link to certain people and there are ancestors (folks like my sister and me) everywhere trying to trace their roots for no other reason than to find out all we can about our ancestors. A local genealogist told my sister and me about these DANIEL, ROWE, and WINDSOR graves in Wenona. We were looking for the grave of Rebecca WINDSOR, first wife of John H. WINDSOR, of Deal Island. She died in 1849 and John remarried (2nd wife Levinia in 1850) just 8 months after Rebecca's death. Rebecca's maiden name was JONES. If anyone can share any information about either of these families buried in this Wenona family plot, we would greatly appreciate it. We do not know who our Great-Great-Grandfather's parents are and we are trying to determine if John and Rebecca may have been such. Our G-G-Grandfather and two siblings (a brother, William, and a sister, Jane Catharine) appeared in the 1850 DC Census living with a Mrs. Martha LOMAX (widow of Samuel) and two teens with her same surname. Martha LOMAX appeared in the 1840 Census in Charles County, Maryland. We didn't know if our relatives had left home after their father was remarried to a young woman just a few years older than my G-G-Grandfather or ??? Just speculation! Our Grandfather, it is said, told some family members that he visited relatives in the Princess Anne area when he was a young man. He shared many details about his family with us but, as I said above, he was the last link to those people and we didn't get enough details from him... (I really believe he told us all he knew about his grandparents but, for some unknown reason, no one in the family was told who our G-G-G-Grandparents were or where they came from. The census records and death certificates for their children state that they were born in Maryland.) We would be most grateful if you have any information on these families that you would share with us. Thank you, <mailto:[email protected]>Betty
