The 1870 Census for McFarlan Precinct, (Elizabethtown Post Office), Hardin County, Illinois, (dated July 19, 1870) has the following family: Hathorn, George, age 26, born in Ohio, works in tin shop; Winnie, 22, born in Kentucky; Mary, 10/12, born in Illinois. The 1860 Census for Vevay, Jefferson Township, Switzerland County, Indiana has the following: George W. Hathorn, 40, master carpenter, born in Virginia; Ann E., 35, born in Indiana; Sarah Ann, 15, born in Ohio; Mary E. 12, born in Indiana; Ira M., 8/12, born in Indiana. If this is the family of your George Washington Hathorn who was born in 1842, he would have been 18 and must have lived elsewhere at the time. The 1810 Census has a James Hathorn living in "Bell Air" (Bel Air), Harford County, Maryland. He appears to be the only Hathorn in his household. (The index for this census has the town name as "Belldin"; however it looks to me like "Bell Air"/Bel Air, which is a town in Harford County.) The 1820 Census has a James Hathorn living in Virginia, with several family members enumerated. There are no names, but if you look up the headings for that census year, you can fill in these numbers to find the approximate ages of family members: 2/1/./././1/3/1/./1/././2 Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
