"The Thomas Book," by Lawrence Buckley THOMAS, 1896, includes Philip THOMAS of West River, Anne Arundel Co., MD, who d. 1674/5, s/o Evan THOMAS of Swansea, Glamorganshire, Wales, who d. 1650. Philip THOMAS made his will 9 Sept. 1674, pr. 10 July 1675, AA, MD. The British Census of 1881 has seven Arthurs b. 1874 & six b. 1875 in Wales. The majority were from Glamorganshire: Ystradyfodwg, Lisworney, Aberdare, Neath, Merthyr, Oystermouth, & Mumbles. Are any of those close to the location of Arthur and his aunt? There's a Slatington in Lehigh Co., PA. In 1880, Lower Macungie, Lehigh, PA, there were THOMAS, W. John, 50, Wales England PA (birthplaces of self & parents) widower dau. Maggie, 17, PA WALES PA; son Arthur, 4. Nearby was an Edward & Ann EVANS family from Wales. There was also in Ward 2, Catasauqua, Lehigh, PA, Thomas R. THOMAS, 50, with wf. Mary, 45, they & parents b. Wales, & daus. Mary 1, 19, & Maria, 17, also b. Wales, & ch. b. PA: Catharine, 14; Wm. R., 12; David J., 10, & Thomas, 8, BUT no Arthur. The closest fit in Maryland, 1880 = Nottingham, Pr. Geo. Co., James W. THOMAS, 32, with son Arthur, 4, but all births were Maryland. Can you think of other clues? Do you know the name of the family Arthur lived with? Did he stay in Wales? Did he marry or have children, and do you know any other names?
