Hi Suzanne, I researched 19th century divorce records in Dorchester County found a huge amount of information. At the time (about 1992), the Dorchester County divorce records were kept in the county courthouse in Cambridge. They had an old ledger that had all the court cases including divorces. I found a reference to the divorce record for my ancestor and then I went into the land records room and found the walls were lined with hundreds of boxes with old court cases. I found a few boxes I was looking for, photocopied the contents of one, and transcribed a large part of it. Here is a link to show you what I transcribed from the 1852 Will. It is quite interesting - hair pulling, gun shots in the house, and addiction to laudanum etc. http://www.collinsfactor.com/EastNewMarket/1877SmithCottage.htm Scroll about half way down the page for the divorce (county circuit court) record. I believe the county circuit court records have since been transferred to the Maryland State Archives. They are probably under the uncatalogued Transer series instead of the Coagser series at the following link http://guide.mdsa.net/. You will likely have some challenges finding what you want in the uncatalogued records. I am not sure how I would now go about locating the1852 divorce record that I once photocopied at the courthouse. You would definitely need to visit the Archives and would need some help from the information desk.
