His name was August Wachsmuth (occassionally spelled Waxmuth). August served as a Union soldier during the Civil War. He enlisted on 10-28-1861, as a Private with CompanyK, 2nd Infantry Regiment in Maryland. He was wounded on 7-30-1864 There are reports he died as a prisoner on 2-15-1865. Further information and pension records show that he died while a POW at Danville Prison Camp. Catherine, his wife's, petition for pension reads as follows: Adjutant General's Office January 16, 1866 Pension #85712 August Wachsmuth enrolled in 1-1-1864 at E. Tenn in Co. K., 2nd Regiment of Maryland Volunteers to serve 3 years as Private at Blains Cross Roads in Co. K..... dated 7-17-1865, he is reported "died at Danville, Va., while a prisioner of war, 1-15-1865 of dysentary. I cannot confirm because I also find an August Waxmuth in the Baltimore Directory in 1864. Any and all help would be so greatly appreciated.
