    1. [Maryland] Winfield Oler- Baltimore to Alaska
    2. NANCY LAUER
    3. Hello Oler Researchers, Family lore has it that Winfield OLER (born about 1861) left Baltimore, Maryland for the gold fields of Alaska and was never heard from again. Taking the challenge, I have learned that he sailed from San Francisco in June of 1891, and went to Nome, Alaska where he purchased No. 29 Eldoado Quartz mine in 1896 while living in Forty Mile, Alaska. However, it didn't pan out for him, and he sold the mine. On the 1880 Census, he is living in Baltimore with his family. On the 1910 Census, he is living in Suisun, Solano, California and on the 1920 Census; he is living in Circle, Alaska Territory. The last official record I have for him is in the Fairbanks Newspaper: He was found on a passenger list of persons taking the Tony Trate Auto Stage on October 8, 1920, from Fairbanks, Alaska Territory, to the Chitina Railroad Terminal. I can't find him on the 1900 Census and believe he has died before the 1930 Census. If anyone has any information on Winfield, I'd really appreciate hearing from you. Thanks, Nancy
