As to the Shelton connection. I'm not aware of any Shelton connection in 1839 when Hudson Lowe was security on the Shelton bond. (I've asked this question myself.) We do know that the Hudson Lowe house is located across the road from the ridge where the Shelton cemetery is located and where his son, George W. Lowe, and daughter Margaret (Lowe) Beam are buried. Hudson's son, Thomas R. Lowe, married Nancy Ann Shelton in 1846. Parental consent was given by Alexander and Sophia Shelton. In 1883 he married (2nd) Henrietta (last name not known to me), the widow of William Shelton. Hudson Lowe's youngest son, John Hudson Lowe, married in 1859 Mary Jane Shelton. The marriage was performed by John Shelton. Please email me at lowe@frontiernet.net if I can help with any documentation. You've helped with what I was trying to show, that there were many LOWE families of early Maryland, and it is very difficult to sort them out. If you can verify any more connections, I'm sure researchers would be grateful for the assistance. Here is more information as given in "Gateway to the West." Adams Co., OH, administrators & executors docket, estate of Thomas SHELTON, 25 Sep. 1839, Jeremiah SHELTON, adm., bond $800. Security, Hudson LOW & Robert SHELTON. Estate of Wm. Author: CindyLowe000 Surnames: Lowe Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.maryland.unknown/222.1.1.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Marilyn, I'm somewhat confused by your posting which has intermingled some documented facts with undocumented highly speculative postings on rootsweb. I guess I have missed the point that you are trying to make here? What relationship (if any) are you suggesting exists between John Lowe Clermont Co. 1810 and the Adams Co. Ohio Lowes? Elijah Lowe's obituary says he came to Adams Co. in 1825 and we know that he and his brother, Kendall, were in Worcester Co. Maryland in 1819/ 1820. You have mentioned Hudson Lowe who married Sabina Hunt in your posting. He and his son Thomas Lowe, with whom Sabina was listed in 1880 (note that a line has been drawn through her name and that she appears in the mortality schedule for that year) are my husband's direct line of ancestors. You have also mentioned Zadock Low and his wife Sarah. DNA tests have shown that there is no link between the Zadock Lowe line and the Hudson Lowe line. You have also made mention of Barton Lowe and Gideon Lowe. Rootsweb lists them as brothers, which seems suspect as the senior Barton Lowe in 1820 and 1830 has only one son listed in the age category given for them. Since Gideon is listed next to the senior Barton in 1840, he seems more likely to be the son in Barton's household in 1820/30 and more closely fits the age category. To my knowledge, no DNA has been submitted to the study from any of the Barton Lowe descendants. It would be helpful in clearing up some of these lineages! I would like to see more postings of documents pertaining to these Ohio Lowes since rootsweb has been so unreliable! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: ty_ni_12 Surnames: Thomas Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.maryland.unknown/7603.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The Arthur Thomas that I'm searching for was born in Slatington(as we know now to be in PA),about 1875.He was on the 1891 Welsh census as a pupil teacher from Slatington, America. On the 1901 census he's 25yrs old and a schoolmaster, U.S America British Subject Naturalised, fluent in both welsh and english languages and living with his aunt in the family home. This is in north Wales, a quarrying village known as Bethesda, that has the largest slate quarry in the world. Its believed that his father could have been called Thomas Thomas, and was with two other brothers when they emigrated to the States about 1882-83 looking for work. One brother named Morris has been found in Shenandoah with his family, but as yet no success in finding descendands, found up until 1930 census. The other brother was Robert, my g/g/grandfather who was sadly killed in a trolley accident in Middle Granville, New York State- 1, May,1884. But Arthur is a mystery, and we dont know if he stayed in Wales or went back to U.S.The aunt he stayed with was my g/g/grandfathers sister and she died in 1910. So presumably he could have stayed with her until her death or got married. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. "The Thomas Book," by Lawrence Buckley THOMAS, 1896, includes Philip THOMAS of West River, Anne Arundel Co., MD, who d. 1674/5, s/o Evan THOMAS of Swansea, Glamorganshire, Wales, who d. 1650. Philip THOMAS made his will 9 Sept. 1674, pr. 10 July 1675, AA, MD. The British Census of 1881 has seven Arthurs b. 1874 & six b. 1875 in Wales. The majority were from Glamorganshire: Ystradyfodwg, Lisworney, Aberdare, Neath, Merthyr, Oystermouth, & Mumbles. Are any of those close to the location of Arthur and his aunt? There's a Slatington in Lehigh Co., PA. In 1880, Lower Macungie, Lehigh, PA, there were THOMAS, W. John, 50, Wales England PA (birthplaces of self & parents) widower dau. Maggie, 17, PA WALES PA; son Arthur, 4. Nearby was an Edward & Ann EVANS family from Wales. There was also in Ward 2, Catasauqua, Lehigh, PA, Thomas R. THOMAS, 50, with wf.
