I would just like to know whether the Catherine GROVE who m. 28 Aug. 1813, by license of Fredk. Co., MD, Adam SPONSELLER, might be an older sister or other relative of my ancestor Frederick GROVE(S), b. 1798, son of George GROVE of Berkeley Co., now West Virginia. However, there were clues in early tax lists that the GROVES family might have been from Sleepy Creek, now in Morgan Co., WV, just a bit farther west. There are over fifty spellings of GROVE(S), such as GR(A/A/E)F(F/E)S. Many of Lancaster Co., PA, spelled the name GROFF. Unfortunately, the names of the grandchildren of George GROVE didn't include a Catherine. They were Amanda, Clarinda, Eli McDowell, Elias, Elizabeth, Hannah, Henry Sylvester, Joshua, Isaac Newton, Isabelle, John, Juliann Margaret, Leroy, Martha, Mary, & William Clark GROVES. Do you mean you have information on the ancestry of Frederick SHIPLEY? I don't know any more about SPONSELLER. I descend from GROVES & SHIPLEY--Ruth SHIPLEY m. 1794, Eli SELBY & had Harriet & Mary SELBY, sisters who married brothers Frederick & Jonas GROVES.
