    3. List and Ernie, No wonder this list is dead. I've been on these lists since 98, and now I can see why some of them not used. Some of you have the wrong idea, putting your information out there is not cluttering up the place. That is why theses lists are here. To do exactly that, post post post. Discuss discuss discuss. These lists are there to post information and questions too, and when you tell them not to clutter up the list it just scares people away from posting. How can you have a discussion if you tell people not to post to the list? You can't. If you want to see how a list works take a look at the St.Mary's Co., list. Go to the threaded archives list, then to M, then to MDSTMARY. This St. Mary's list covers all of Maryland. The list admin. puts in loads of info and lets us cover everything. There are no restrictions there, everyone helps everyone. Come on people lets get this list alive. Don't be afraid to post. If you post to as many lists as possible I guarantee you will get answers to you questions, find the people your looking for and learn about your ancestors. You will get help. But you have to put you questions and info out there for others to see. I just got a response from a lady to an bit of info I posted in 2003. These messages are archived for others to go to and read so new people are seeing your info on a daily basis. This is a free posting for us, come on and use it, holding any info you have to yourself is not going to get you any answers. Put it out there so you can find answers. So you can get over your brick walls. Some of us are die hard researchers and we have plenty of publications/CD's, etc. we have purchased, and are willing to share and we cannot help you if you don't post what your looking for. William Martin Smith b. 1824 d 1902 father was William Marion Smith b. 1798 d. 1829. It is said that after his wife's death, he left William with the grandmother (I'm assuming his mother due to this last letter). The last letter received from William Marion to his mother was that there was cholera on board. William Martin ran away at about the age of 12. Then he finally shows up in Texas. I'm having a hard time finding him during these years. After his 1st wife, M. Elizabeth Chandler d. 12 Feb 1856 in Waco TX died from her clothes catching fire (she was also with child), William shows up on the Valentine Moore's plantation working as a foreman. This is where he meets his 2nd wife, Martha Ann Moore. There is adoption papers for Martha & siblings before their marriage. William is not the person who adopted them. I'll find my records & let you know who adopted them.
