Sorry disregard this note-I just noticed the query was on Smithfield and not Smithville! In case anyone is interested though I did get confirmation today that the town of Dunkirk in MD was at one time called Smithville. Sorry for the confusion! What I meant was that perhaps one of the Isaacs of Queen Anne was father or grandfather of John FORD, which would account for John later naming a son Isaac. If you have any other unusual names in your FORD family, they might be more helpful clues than the name John. There were men named John FORD everywhere.

Hello. There is a church and a cemetary in Dunkirk, MD (that's in the northern part of Calvert County) and they are called Smithville United Methodist Church and Smithville Cemetary. I am not sure if the town was ever called Smithville but wouldn't be too surprised. I could ask my Grandmother if I can catch her on a "good" day-she's 84 years old and in the early stages of alzheimers. She would know though. There is an extensive FORD family in Robert BARNES' Baltimore Co. Families, 1659 - 1759, beginning with Thomas FORD. Descendants included these men named John FORD: John, b. 1695, s/o James. John (1720 - 1784), s/o Thomas of James. John, probably son of Wm., probably married a dau/o Thomas FORD (1717 - 1787). [Isn't that definite?] John FORD, relationship to the above not established, m. 1755, Sarah MURPHY & had sons Benjamin, b. 16 N 1755; Dorcas, b. 3 Mar. 1757; David, b. 1 N 1759; & Rachel, b. 16 Mar. 1762. BARNES' MD Marriages, Queen Anne County, FORD: Daniel, 10 Feb. 1745, Sarah MAUD Isaac, 13 Dec. 1735, Mary POWELL Isaac, 29 Je. 1748, Mary CORKER Thomas, 20 N 1735, Rebecca BURROUGH Wm., 7 F 1743, Winf'd AARON Wm., 29 Oct. 1745, Mary SLAY Wm., 10 Oct. 1749, Eliz. LEET. BRUMBAUGH's MD Records...Town Hundred, QA Co., 1776: FORD, Daniel, Sr. & Jr., Isaac, Sr. Tax List, QA Co., 1783: Daniel, Isaac, Thomas, & Wm. FORD. Online sources say that the Isaac who m. Mary POWELL was son of Wm. & Johanna. I think I would check Queen Anne County first because that's where there were many Isaacs, and there were Johns in many counties. Do the other QA County names fit?

I am new to your list. I have a 3rd Gr. Grandfather, Christopher Barr from Washington Co., MD, that I don't have much on. I have no idea who his parents were or his birth date. All I have is proof of his marriage to Barbara Toby on 13 Apr 1809 in Washington Co. I received that from the Maryland State Archives. From an 1840 Census from Ohio, I believe he was born somewhere around 1775 and Barbara abt 1785. They had 1 son, John born 1 Apr 1810 in Washington Co. From MD they moved to Ohio where John married and had a family. In 1853 John and his family and his mother, Barbara moved on to Iowa. I have very good documentation on John and everyone to this day but poor old Christopher remains a mystery. I hope someone reading this message might have a clue to where we might find some information. I would love to hear from you!! Ruth Tysor SW Iowa MD
