    3. I am in desperate need to find a particular person in Maryland to connect my family tree for verification. I have a Rev. Edward Topp arriving at Baltimore?? in about 1696 coming from England on the King's bounty to preach and to teach. He was rector at, at least three parishes that I am aware of. St. Paul's in Baltimore from about 1696 to about 1702, St. Mary's from about 1702 - 1704 and finally St. Anne's in Annapolis from about 1703/4 to 1706, the year he died. I have found several references to him in the Maryland Archives as being the Minister to the Lower House of Govt. in the early 1700's and he was also supposedly tutor to the Royal Governor children, Governor Nicholson. I am trying to pinpoint his death in 1706 and place of burial, probably Annapolis, but not sure, his wife's name, he may have been married when he arrived from England or married in Maryland and the date of the birth of at least one son Roger, possibly other children before his death in 1706 at the age of 29, cause of death unknown. I can trace from his son Roger to present day without any breaks, but want more information on Edward. He was born in 1677 in Sussex, England. Can anyone out there be of assistance? Butler/Buttler but not surprisingly, didn't find him. Although the Directory claims to include physicians between 1804 and 1929, prior to 1905, it is pretty much hit and miss. So, this doesn't help you much, except that it is one less place to look. The report of death was made by her deaf daughter, so it has more mistakes than any record you can imagine. The questions and answers have no obvious connection. Ultimately, I found Helena's maternal line, but her father's remains elusive. 1. Her parents were both born on February 18, so that seems reliable. However, my other aunt gave me "romantic" stories, rather than facts. 2. Because of a legal suit in 1850, I believe his birth name was BUTTLER. 3. Born in Maryland in 1795 is on most documents, census reports and references 4. He was Catholic. Of this I am sure. 5. He was a doctor 6. There may be a connection to Missouri before he was married to Elizabeth Ogle in 1836 in Belleville Illinois (I never have figured the right question for the answer "Missouri") 7. He may have lived in Randolph County Illinois before he was married 8. He retired to Decatur in Macon County Illinois where there are several Buttlers and Butlers. 9. A neighbor of the Ogles in St Clair County Illinois was Dr. Absolem BUTTLER who was born in VIrginia. I have come to appreciate the death record since I have clues for my brick walls. For instance, John meant Helena's father, not husband. It is a game. Butler is a hard name to discern in handwritten records. Helena's marriage license said "Button" I go back and forth between the very common "John Butler" to the very uncommon "John Butler" John and Elizabeth had 10 children. Only my line is extant, so help is unlikely from another family researcher. I need help from ancestor and collateral relative sources, data bases and anyone else in Maryland. Thank you so much. Surnames: Ford Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/SFB.2ACI/4234.2 Message Board Post: Ann & Marilyn, Ann, I suspect my eastern TN/western NC Ford line comes from some of the Maryland Fords; so, was interested in your query that I came across today. Somewhere in my records there is an Isaac Greenville Ford. Marilyn, Also very interested in your reply to Ann listing a John Ford m. to a Sarah Murphy with a son Benjamin b. 1755. This Benjamin would be about the right age to be the father of my John Tipton Ford. Also, I noticed that Benjamin's has a sister named Rachel. Lots of naming pattern coincidences here. Am at the proverbial brick wall with John Tipton Ford. Searching my Ford family line and trying to find information on the following persons that I found in the FamilySearch.org site. I've followed the children of Thomas Foard/Ford & Leah (Price)Foard/Ford forward; but, can't find much on Benjamin & Rachel (Tipton) Foard/Ford. FORD/FOARD, Benjamin b. 18 Dec 1723 - St. Paul Protestant Episcopal Church, Baltimore, MD MARRIED: about 1750 - St. James,Baltimore, MD Father: FORD/FOARD, Thomas Mother: PRICE. Leah SPOUSE: TIPTON, Rachel b. @1728/1730 - St. James Parish, Anne Arundel, MD Father: TIPTON, John Mother: KEMP, Mary Sister: TIPTON, Mary m. to CHAMBERS, James ****Looking for will, probate, land records or any source that names children of Benjamin Ford/Foard and Rachel Tipton.**** Traced my Ford line to a FORD, John Tipton, b.poss. 1770-80, poss. Buncombe Co,NC??? (named his first son Tipton Ford born about 1800-05), m. to Anne/Annie (Sarah Anne???) McMullin. Have copy of John's will of 1833 in Haywood Co., NC that names five adult sons (Tipton, Benjamin Jackson(my line), James W., William C. and George W.) Other children are: Evaline, Joseph Posey,Sarah, Doctor Burton, John T., Jane and Letitia. John's will was not probated until 1871 and some records take that as his date of death; however,he appears in the 1830 census; but, only Ann Ford appears as head of household in the 1840 census.A later document between Ann Ford (widow) and her son, Tipton Ford, dated about 1833-34 confirms John's demise way before 1871. I have a copy of this land deed. Also have copies of three (3) land records in Buncombe Co, NC that show: 1. Land Indenture-30 Nov. 1801 - Benjamin Ford & John Tipton-From John Strother for $36.00(72 acres)- "East side of Pigeon River-joining land whereon said Benjamin & John now lives...""...their corner ...to pounding Mill Branch...to the Pigeon River...down the Pigeon River to their line...north with their line...Witnesses..... John Tipton" (Does the above deed indicate that John Tipton is the possible son of Benjamin Ford??? Have you seen a deed(s) that show purchases by two persons of a different surname??? One of the witnesses is listed as John Tipton and would seem unlikely that you could witness your own indenture???) 2. Land Indenture-17 May 1802/05? - John T. Ford - from Robert Reed (14 acres for 30 pounds)"East side of Pigeon River-whereon John T. Ford now lives... Witnesses: John Strother - James McKee? 3. Land Indenture - 09 Sept. 1804 - John T. Ford - ($125.00 from William Chambers)- "East side of Pigeon River-where he now lives... west to Pounding Mill Branch... Witnesses: Robert Reed -Robert Caine" (May be a far reaching coincidence; but, the sister of Rachel Tipton (Mary Tipton) married a James Chambers and this land was purchased from a William Chambers???) Could my John Tipton Ford be the son or grandson of Benjamin Ford/Foard b. 18 Dec. 1723 in Baltimore, MD and married to Rachel Tipton, who's father was named John ??? Is the Lt. Col. Benjamin Ford, who died 27 Apr. 1781,of wounds received 25 Apr.1781-Hobkirk's Hill, the same Benjamin Ford b. 18 dec. 1723 in Baltimore Co., MD??? ( He was 1st. Lt.Smallwoods Md. Rgt. 14 Jan. 1776, Capt.-May 1776, Major-2nd. MD.-10 Dec. 1776, Lt. Col.-6th. MD, 17 Apr. 1777-trans. 5th. MD.01 Jan. 1781.) Haven't found any info as to the spouse/children of this person. Some FORD and TIPTON families of Anne Arundel Co. & Baltimore Co., MD migrated to TN/NC/KY after the Revolutionary War. The TIPTON name is carried on through my FORD line. Will of FORD/FOARD, Thomas Senr. of Baltimoe Co., MD 18 Nov. 1748 lists as one of the witnesses : Jno (John) Tipton, Senior. With all the "coincidences" in naming patterns etc. through out the FORD/FOARD & TIPTON lines, I believe that there is a connection to my line and the Maryland families. Just lack that documented proof that would tie these families together. Some genealogy records list my John Tipton Ford's father as Benjamin Foard/Ford, from the Maryland line; however, in asking the folks for documentation, I've never received a reply or the replies state they don't have documentation for the sources! Glad to share any of my research and would be most appreciative if anyone could give me information on the family of BENJAMIN FORD/FOARD and RACHEL TIPTON and in particular, their children. 3. Christopher Barr is my 3rd gr. grandfather. All I have been able to find out on him is his marriage to Barbara Toby on 13 Apr 1809. Documented by state Archives. I have no birth date or name of parents. He was in a land dispute in 1812 and 1816 which I have a CD of the Chancery Court hearings. Barbara's brother, sisters and their husbands are all named but nothing on Christopher. I have no record of any church group that might have his birth so I don't know where to turn. Would any of you have an idea? This all took place in Washington Co. Christopher had 1 son, John, born 1 Apr 1810 in Washington Co. They moved sometime between 1816 and 1840 to Ohio. I have good documentation from 1840 to the present time. John married a Mary Buck in Allen Co., Ohio, documented, they moved to Ohio, Indiana and on to IA. Would appreciate any help or ideas you might have. Ruth Tysor SW Iowa
