MD.; d. 1822, Brooke County, West Virginia. My question is, were George Wilcoxon and wife Mary Swearingen's children born in PG Co. MD? You only gave dates of birth. Did George move his family to West Virginia, as he is not mentioned in his mother's will written 9/5/1801. Thanks

George Wilcoxon who married Lettice Sanders was born about 1784 so I am uncertain as to whether this is the correct family for his birth. I am a descendent of George and Lettice and would dearly appreciate any clarification on his lineage. Thanks, Karen Harris

Will of Thomas Wilcoxon Junior dated May 25, 1775 and proved January 15, 1776 names Thomas, Henry, George, Anthony, John and Jesse and daughters Mary Elizabeth, Ruth and Ann. I am a descendent of George Wilcoxon and Lettice Sanders/Saunders. The information I have on John Belt Wilcoxon and Elizabeth Swearingen: children: Anthony Wilcoxon, February 22, 1778; Patsy Wilcoxon, 1783; Samuel February 1, 1784; Selina, born 1785; Fielder born 1786; John born 1787; Jesse born 1788; Elizabeth born 1792; Reason born 1806 and Henry Hardy Wilcoxon born about 1808. If George was born 1784, I do not see where he fits in this family lineage. I have speculated that he was the son of Anthony Belt Wilcoxon and Ruth Swearingen; Anthony died in 1798 and Ruth remarried Charles Burris. I do not have any firm proof, but George does not seem to fit in any other lineage from this family. The naming patterns of his children reflect the names of many the children from the Thomas Wilcoxon and Elizabeth Hardy branch. I would be most interested in hearing any other theories as to the parents of George Wilcoxon. Thanks, Karen Harris

The Maryland State Law Library is across the street from the Maryland Archives in Annapolis. The last time I was there (about 10 years ago), they had a respectable genealogical collection, plenty of useful microfilm, volumes full of old periodicals such as the Dorchester County Genealogical Magazine, etc. The collection was easy to access. However, if you need a librarian to assist there was none. With the odd hours at the Archives- the Law Library always seemed to be open (Mon, Tues, Sat 12-1, evenings) to fill in the gaps. (If anyone knows if the hours or genealogical collection has changed in the last 10+ years, let us know.) You can find the website by simply putting that information "Maryland State Library" into your search. Or any other similar question can be answered that same way.
