I can't seem to get this through to the lists without Rootsweb stopping it as SPAM. There is some dang HTML in it, which might be the problem. <sigh> Email should be Plain Text! Also, I just wanted to mention that while I am listed as the Selkirkshire coordinator, I have (sadly) had to resign that position. So please write to Jennifer if you are interested in taking over the Selkirkshire coordinator's position. Valorie Zimmerman From: "Scotland FreeCensus" <ScotlandFreeCensus@mail2world.com> Subject: Scotland Free Census Project Date: Tue, 10 Feb 2004 19:43:22 -0800 The free census project aims to transcribe all the UK 19th Century returns to create an online 'free-to-view' database. It is part of an overall project that also covers the registers of Births, Deaths & Marriages (FreeBDM) and Parish Registers (FreeREG). If you, like many of us, have brick walls in the early nineteenth century due to nomadic ancestors; then the database will help to quickly locate those pesky ancestors. The database has been operational for around six months and can be found at the following URL: http://freecen.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl it contains approximately 2 million records in total. Some Scottish returns are already available in the database, with more being added all the time. We are looking for volunteers to help with the transcription of the census. You will need access to a computer and a microfilm or microfiche reader. We will supply the rest. Most Scottish projects are currently working on the 1841 census, with some having already progressed to the 1851. The counties of : Aberdeen Argyll Roxburgh Renfrew are currently looking for new volunteers. Other counties will post request for new volunteers on either their website or the relevant Rootsweb county list when needed. If you are interested please visit the webpage of the county in question or contact the county coordinator direct, we and other family historians worldwide will appreciate any contribution you can make.
