I'm not real clear on the females lines so I may well be off base. But from what I know of the will (have copy) there were no daughters mentioned and John Brown may well have been the son of Dugal's wife, Grace. I am familiar with the fact that in that time frame a "son-in-law" did not mean what it does today, a son by marriage.
