    3. It's said Thomas Sr McQueen died in s Pa's Great Cove in 1763. 1763 is the year of Pontiac's War uprising. I've read the Great Cove had 2 early forts. I've found a 1773 tax list of Ayr township, new Bedford Co,Pa that includes the Great Cove, and more. From Va Land suits,we know in 1773, Jousha McQueen,John Sappington, and Wm West were sharing a cabin at,what today, is Weirton,WV, or extreme frontier, and George Brown and others rode to their rescue. 1773,on the extreme frontier. 1754,the Penn's bought land rights from the Indians that included the Great Cove, and Ayr township, and soon the township was cut in Cumberland Co,Pa. 1761-69,the Penn's would sell land in the Great Cove area 'on time". 1773 Ayr twnsp, new Bedford Co tax list includes no McQueen, but does include,at it's poorest level, one "George Brown. " Further west,in Somerset Co,Pa or Brother's Valley township are others who would live at Weirton,WV. 1774 kY'S 1ST settlement by James Harrod, who was raised in the Great Cove. Clermont Co,sw Ohio ,had, among it's earliest settlers,Dr Allison, and Thomas Paxton, from the 1773 Ayr tax list, but miles from where George Brown settled. I've read the Great Cove had 2 forts in the days of Indian wars. McConnell's Cove=Great Cove, and modern maps show McConnellsville,Ps in Fulton Co,Pa. Ries Shelby was an early officer.Isaac Shelby,of Col Evan,Jr ,was Ky's 1st governor The Mason-Dixon line was surveyed about 1767, locating Maryland a 1 1\2 mile wide at Hancock,Md. 1 1\2 miles from Ayr township,pA to Hampshire Co,Va [WV] thru then, Frederick Co,Md Maybe the Great Cove is 4 mile wide by 20 miles long. Maybe. And I have zero proof it's my George Brown [m Elizabeth McQueen] on the Ayr township list, but there are,1773,no McQueen's. Indeed no McQueen's,in 1773, in all sw Pa til you get to the modern WV panhandle. ________________________________________________________________ The best thing to hit the internet in years - Juno SpeedBand! 3. This is some of the most frustrating areas to research. The borders moved back and forth so much that it is hard to tell where to look for the records. Then throw in the fact that PA is terrible at record keeping, then and now. I think the records we are after are in VA.
