    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/XI0.2ACEB/449.2 Message Board Post: I think that your cuz is confused. The Macqueens were followers of the MacDonalds and accompanied an irish chieftain's daughter to Skye when she was to marry the Laird of the Isles. They have strong hebridean background and in general supported Bonnie Prince Charlie in his quest to regain the throne - which had been lost at the time of Queen Elizabeth 1. The war between Scotland and England was acknowledged to have been lost by the Battle of Culloden. Many scots were driven off their lands. The lands were frequently promised and (taken) to english war lords as gifts for their efforts and this is one of the biggest reasons for the islanders moving to the Americas, though it is not the only one. In the case of the islands, the move was also related to poor harvests and a belief that the Americas offered something better. There was also the issue of the way in which our prisoners were treated. No, I do not believe that McDugal became Macqueen at any point. Mc Shubin, Mcrae, McGee are possibles, but not McDugal. I have been researching my husband's family tree for over 20 years now and I still find it so excting that it can bring history back to life. Do'nt give up - and trust your own judgments!!

    3. Dawn, What do you know about the Magee's from the Island of Magee off the coast of Ireland out from Dublin? I have connections to them as well as to Queen, McQueen, MacQueen, and who knows what else.
