Of course they spread out and moved all over Scotland and down into England. Many seemed to move to Liverpool, which is a bastion of Irish and Scots because of the jobs mainly. I have 2 great-uncles (bros. of my grandfather Thomas Owen McQueen, whom I cannot trace except I know they were all born in Liverpool, 2 were electricians and my grandfather was another who came to Ireland, the only one of his family, as a pioneer electrician, just one generation later and then myself who left for the USA, so on that side, my family are newcomers to Ireland and very few are there. Most would be in NI where there was constant trade and migration between Northern Ireland and Scotland, using the Mc or Mac, which means son of the the O means grandson or descendant of, more used in Ireland. In 1800s Many were forced to remove this Mc or O, as the English wanted to eradicate the clan system in Scotland, also the bagpipes but after 1847 many people put the Mc back in their names. In Ireland the English did the same thing, only more restrictions, outlaw Irish language and customs and remove any celtic traces like Mc or O. Now thats my history lesson for today. My Dad John McQueen always told me his line was Scots, had a clan McQueen and a coat of arms, so that's about all I know of them really. The best place to find their origins would be Scotland, preferably the Isles, where they were known as Clan Revan and later joined clan Chatten when one of them Moira married into the McIntosh family line. You can check all this history online at www.electricscotland.com They fought at the battle of Harlan and see Braveheart perhaps they were in that not sure I didnt see the movie. Good luck I am concentrating now on my Moms side who were all Irish. Happy New Year to all on the List.
