During the 1930's my father lived in or near Enid, OK. before he came to Texas and met and married my mother. He knew an Indian woman there named Novalee who he name me after. My father died when I was only 5 years old so was not able to find out anything about her or what my name means or anything. If anyone can give me any information at all I'd appreciate it. My e-mail address has changed. It is SmokeyMtWoman@aol.com.

    3. I logged onto my local library system website tonight, to find a delightful surprise -- I now have access to a wonderful database, America's Obituaries & Death Notices from NewsBank. I used to have access to this database from a guest account, and it is GREAT. Please write to the list if you have an obituary you want looked up that is relevant to the list topic! If it will be off-topic, write to me privately. I've posted a copy of the Source List (492 titles) here: http://valoriez.blogspot.com/2005/02/americas-obituaries-death-notices.html I can search all the newspapers in the US, search by region, by state, or one, some or all of the newspapers in a state. Some of these newspapers only have a couple of years, but the Chicago Tribune has (1/1/1985-Current), Chicago Tribune Historical Archive (1860-1984) *and* Chicago Tribune RedEye Edition (10/30/2002-Current)! Plus the Sun-Times 1986 to current. What a great database! On another note, any of you needing a free GoogleMail account (free webmail with 1000 megabytes of free storage, I have 50 invitations to give away. Just write me at valorie.zimmerman@gmail.com to ask. Do =NOT= write to the list -- ask at gmail. Info: http://gmail.google.com/gmail/help/about.html :-) I hope the New Year is treating you well! All the best, Valorie

    2. Heather Canevaro
    3. Hello All, I am new to this list and was wondering if any of you have come across this fellow? Thomas McQueen, B 1878 Cairnbeddie, St Martins Perth, Scot. Son of Thomas McQueen and Betsy Ewan. Thomas' parents were both dead by 1885 and he and sister Emily stayed with the Peter Mann family in Cairnbeddie , while siblings Agnes and John went to live with their Aunt Isabella Ewan Cameron in Broughty Ferry, Angus. In the 1901 census Thomas is visiting Emily, who is still at the Peter Mann farm. Thomas gives his occupation as a Joiner. I can find no further reference to Thomas or Emily at Scotlandspeople, the Scot. Government website. If anyone has a Thomas that might fit this info, I would really like to hear from you. Thanks -- Heather Canevaro http://skfamilyhistory.esmartbiz.com/index.htm http://www.geocities.com/heather51us/index.html?1012584828630 (Still building)

My John McQueen (b Sept 8, 1793 d. about 1842) came from NY. He married Mary Scott ( daughter of Jermia born in NJ 1776) on July 14, 1814 in NY. Their first 9 children where born in NY and the 10 was born in MO on June 29, 1841. They were in the 1840 census in Gasconnade Co MO. I don't show any conection to anyone in IL but that doesn't mean there wasn't one. Have you checked the records for Dewitt Co, IL for 1910? or any of the surronding counties? If you can find Ben or Roy, look at the neighbors. She would have been 28, married? and living close by? Also where were her parents in the 1890,1890 and/or 1910 census? I will keep an eye out for anything with McQueen's in IL. Also Hyronimous is a very unusual name. Check it out in a search. Sorry I couldn't help you, but my McQueens were alreay in MO by 1840.

    1. Don Juan McQueen
    2. Don Juan McQueen John McQueen had inherited thousands of acres of rich timberland stretching from South Carolina ( now Ga. Savannah between Tybee Island ) down the to the Spanish border, but his ambition exceeded his judgment after Revolutionary War postwar expansionism, fraught with danger and the greed of men and natios, forced him to reverse every allegiance he had held dear. Every allegiance except his deep, constant love for his wife Anne. Anna trapped by her religious and patriotic heritage, her concern for her children could not bring herself to leave Georgia and to East Florida. John McQueen the trusted friend of Washington, Jefferson, and Lafayette became overnight Don Juan McQueen a loyal Spanish subject and initimate friend and advisor to East Florida's young Spanish governor. His peacemaking efforts along the violent Georgia-Florida border were to be rewarded with enormous Spanish land grants. I went down Savannah and Tybee Island about five years ago to check on John or Don Juan. Also there is a very good book if you can find one about him by Eugenia Price copyright 1974 name of the is Don Juan McQueen Ihope this will help someone Henry McQueen

This is due to the fact that Gealig was used in Ireland and Scotland in early 1800s and earlier Cuinn in Gaelig, often became Queen added Mc sons of and even Cuinn in Ireland. That's why I am having trouble locating my gggrandfather Owen McQueen, called Owen Queen in Scots censuses and Quinn on marriage cert. It is hard to know where born because the birth certs. did not start until 1850 or 1860s in Ireland. It's best if you have a baptism cert. from a church, even then the spelling may be incorrect in translation from the Irish/Scots into English. Sorry for your trouble, it's not an easy name to identify. Patricia, USA
