    3. Scott, I would be very interested in the information in those probate records. William was in the area of PA that was considered part of Virginia in the late 1700's. I have tried to check for a deed record in VA, but have not had much luck. Am open to suggestions. As to Dugal and his relatives, guess there were some pretty big families from this line. 1. Re: [McQUEEN] have you seen the wills index??
    2. Dear All I found some really interesting info on Mcqueens at _http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/_ (http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/) Whilst there is a charge to access original documents there is a lot of free info in the wills area. I did purchase the Robert Dundas Mcqueen will (Feb 1817), which is fascinating - but gave me few leads on my own tree research. I found that his possessions were all to be sold off and his sister (quoted as next of kin) Mary (Honyman) was dealing with all of this. This was interesting as his wife, Lilias, was still alive (she died in 1846). Lilias did make a very good marriage again in August 1817. It looks as if she did perhaps have her new beau, Richard, in tow and ready sincerely Dawn

    1. Re: [McQUEEN] Yes that is my Dugal McQueen

    3. Thanks for all that research and information about your line Dugal McQueen. Now what I am wondering weren't there 9 McQueens who were shipped together from England from Preston. I may be related along with many others over there in USA if we knew how to track the other families but it would be hard after 250 years at least. You have traced your line directly from Dugal right? I wonder about the other family members evern brothers who were with him? Maybe someone could find the names of those unknown McQueens who were shut up in Preston church before trial and being shipped off in chains to the US? This is just an idea. Some posted cant remember who, that they scrated their names on the church walls and were fed bythe locals to keep them alive. Anyone ever see those names in the church there. Like you they probably had large families and history in the US but none of us in the British Isles would know their existence. I might be a good idea for someone in Preston to check and list the names of the emigrants. I hear some were brothers. Btw does the movie "Braveheart" give any historical reference to the Clan Chattan or Macintosh clans which had many other clans in them? Thanks. Patricia Scots Irish born Dublin now living in California. PS : my children will have a hard time with history after we are gone, from Scotland to Ireland to USA. ----- Original Message ----- From: HHMc@aol.com To: McQUEEN-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Saturday, February 25, 2006 2:01 PM Subject: [McQUEEN] Yes that is my Dugal McQueen Yes that is my Dugal McQueen ( He was captured at Preston, Lancastershire, England November 13, 1715. 1. Re: [McQUEEN] The family history - Braxfield
    2. I agree with Eunice. I regularly 'google', alta vista, megacrawl, check LDS, Ancestry.com etc. etc. in case of something new and I did it again following Jacquelyn's email and whilst there is a lot of interesting social and legal history, there is nothing tangible on the actual family tree of the Braxfields or their origins. However, The book, 'The Hanging Judge' by Brian Osborne (which incidentally uses the Raeburn picture for its front cover) is a very good piece of work and I would recommend it. Eunice, I enclose the tree data which I copied at The SocGen in London (from Percy's file!). It should be pretty accurate, but you will want to check off one or two points. 3. Jacquelyn, Thanks for the URL. I have seen this picture before when searching through one of the Scottish sites. As to googling - I did that the other night, and although lots of bits found, I was kind of surprised that no one seems to have done a definitive genealogy on the gentleman - so I guess it will be one of my tasks. 2. Yes that is my Dugal McQueen ( He was captured at Preston,  Lancastershire, England November 13, 1715. He was shipped to Annapolis, Maryland  and sold on August 25, 1716 ) But I looked that up in Maryland back in 1987 When I was Md. doing research. I have the hand written original copies of the Birth Records Land Records, Will of Dugal's. I have not worked on any of since 1997. I started working on my McQueen family in 1982 in the Jasper, and Shelby County Texas from there I went to La, Ark., Miss., Tenn. Ala. 2. Eunice my Lilias (b.1820) and Robert Dundas Macqueen (b.1808) are siblings of Archibald Macqueen and Margaret Wallace who were married in Eaglesham in abt. 1807. This was Archie's second (possibly 3rd) marriage, his wife Betty Whyte having died not long after giving birth to their 3rd child I thnk. I noted somewhere that there is a Wallace link to the Braxfields. I picked that up in these recent few emails and so I am going to have a crack at pursuing that route. It may have been Margaret Wallace's side of the family and I had though it to be Archie's. I can, however, find no Archie's in the Braxfield lines - so for me that doesn't work. If you do find any notes on my Lilias or Robert Dundas (not to be confused with the judge's son who married Lilias, Lady Montgomerie and died without issue in 1816) sincerely Dawn

    2. No Henry. I havent, but I will take a look through the old notes I have to see if I have anything lurking in there. Meanwhile is this your Dugal: Dougal McQueen, a Jacobite, was in the MacIntosh brigade that invaded England in the 1715 uprising. He was captured at Preston, Lancastershire, England November 13, 1715. He was shipped to Annapolis, Maryland and sold on August 25, 1716 as an indentured servant for 7 years to William Holland member of the Governor's Colonial Council. Dugal is listed as a tax payer (property owner) in the Upper Cliffs Hundred of Calvert County in 1732. Dugal a resident of Prince Georges County received 72 acres of land called Cranberry Plains September 1, 1740 (Julian Calendar). Cranberry Plains is probably located on the site of St Johns Catholic Church and School in Westminster, Maryland. Dugal signed his will on March 26, 1746. His wife was listed as Grace (Brown?). He names his sons William, Francis and Thomas. It was written by Daniel Franklin Macqueen and this Dugal is his 5th Great Grandfather. You can find him at _http://www.geocities.com/danielmcqueen/history.html_ (http://www.geocities.com/danielmcqueen/history.html) Dawn

    3. Dawn, Over the past few nights I had been working on the construction of Robert Dundas McQueen - didn't quite get him connected to Robert Mcqueen, Laird of Stoneybrn & Whelphill - but thanks to your information, now I know. While in Salt Lake a couple of years ago, went through some of the large printed books and extracted information on the McQueens in the Register of Deeds and Index to the Record Services kept in Chancery - these books are big ones, but photocopied the pages for years as early as 1750-1759 up to about 1881. Still wading through, so will pass on information when I get it a bit more organized. You mention Robert and his 3 sons. My husband descends from William - son #2, and from William's first son Robert who married his cousin Elizabeth (daughter of Robert - son #3. Margaret McKinnon of California also descends from this union. You are correct in your assumption that the Loudon that I mentioned was the merchant in Liverpool. This is the line that Betty Allison of Altrimcham is descended from. I had managed to trace the McQueen's back to the marriage of Robert and Elizabeth, but it was the information from Margaret that gave me the breakthrough. Back in 1981 I had done an inexpensive McQueen genealogy booklet, and donated a copy to the Family History Library in Salt Lake - after all I had used their resources to compile most of it. Eunice -----Original Message----- From: DAWNMACQUEEN@aol.com [mailto:DAWNMACQUEEN@aol.com] Sent: February 23, 2006 5:03 AM To: McQUEEN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [McQUEEN] The family history Patty, Crawfordjohn and Leadhills are in the Scottish lowlands - well south of Glasgow, not too far from the river Clyde - and to the west of the country and I think they have always been within the shire of Lanark, although they do border Ayrshire, Dumfriesshire and Peebleshire. My own Macqueens are predominantly from Eaglesham, Neilston, Stonehouse, Avondale and Lochwinnoch which are quite close by. All but one of them left Scotland in the 1870's. All settled in England - in Birmingham (Warwickshire), London, Winchcomb (Gloucestershire) and Market Drayton (Shropshire). Through this listing, I found that my husband's GG grandfather Archie's sister Mary (who I did not know existed) married a chap called 'Gall'. That line settled in the USA. I believe that there is a Braxfield connection because I have two distinctive names in my tree (Lilias Macqueen and Robert Dundas Macqueen) which are also found in the infamous judge's tree which kicks off as follows: his grandfather Robert Mcqueen was the Laird of Stoneyburn and Whelphill. He had 3 sons, (1) John, (2)William and (3)Robert. (1) John became the Laird of Braxfield and Robert Macqueen of Braxfield is one of his sons. (2) William became tenant of Cowhill, Crawford parish. Incidentally, he had two sons+ 3 daughters - the sons were Robert (b.1723, d. 1795 m. Elizabeth, his cousin, in 1750. They had 14 children) and William. I think there was a reference to this Robert and Elizabeth in the emails a few days ago. Also I think that the Loudon Mcqueen referred to by Eunice is quite possibly the 8th son of Robert and Elizabeth. My notes tell me that he became a merchant in Liverpool and was drowned there. He left one son, John bn Feb 22nd 1797, and two daughters ( I do not have their names at the present time). However, John was to marry a Marrion Hunter. They had 3 children, Loudon, Marrion and Hope. Eunice if this is your line, do you have this info as I do have some more details? (3) Robert became tenant of the Castle of Crawford. He had 3 sons - Robert, William and James + Elizabeth (who married her cousin as discussed previously). Eunice and I have exchanged notes for a while, though I have to admit that I had not quite mastered the lines in detail. There is also Margaret (in Canada) who has done lots on those lines. Well still no firm ties for me - but you never know! sincerely Dawn ==== McQUEEN Mailing List ==== Please don't post private information about living people without permission. 3. Hi Dawn: Yes indeed I know Graham, He is my nephew. In fact I have been working with him for information as his Mom is my sister and she lives in England. The name changes from Macqueen to McQueen and sometime McQuinn. His email is the same you have gmfbisset@freeuk Owen was Born Ireland or Kirkinner not sure which. Recently I found Owen McQuinn b.1816 on BIVR death 1891, age 75, Cheshire, Merseyside on the Free BMD Index England and Wales 1837 -1924 and his youngest son William Owen born Liverpool 1858 found in 1861 Liverpool census. I have a copy if you or Graham would like to see this entry. William Owen McQueen m. Elizabeth Duvall in 1880 BIVR Liverpool marriage records St.Silas, Liverpool BMD Index 1837-1924 & Margaret McQuinn died 1867 age 51, Liverpool, Lancs. These may be our relatives because Owen often signed himself McQuinn not McQueen. In the 1841 1851 Scots census Owen was called Queen and McQueen. In the 1861 census Liverpool he was called Owen Macqueen age 46, Margaret age 44 so the ages and the area look right to me. A daughter named Elizabeth age 22 in 1861 census I cannot find but a daughter not in this census Margaret born 1844 may be found married to George H. Ward St.Silas, Liverpool 1869 and another Margaret born Liverpool christened St.Silas 1880 daughter of William and Elizabeth McQueen. I hope I am right with these people but the dates names and connections seem right to me. I only have some of the entries from the LDS www.familysearch.com and got no certificates. I was told the church was bombed in the Blitz WWII. Are you in touch with Graham Bisset? I have been going through old stuff and found this email which was posted on the mcqueen list on 16th Nov 2003. His email address then was _gmfbisset@freeuk.com_ (mailto:gmfbisset@freeuk.com) and you are connected to him! Here is the transcript...... Hi there, fellow listers! I have managed to trace one arm of my lineage back to Owen McQueen (also named Queen or Quinn in records found thus far), born around 1816 in Kirkinner, Wigtown. From what I already know, Owen married Margaret Copeland on 22 June 1837 in Mochrum, Wigtown. I believe they had 6 children, all born in Mochrum. These are Elizabeth McQueen (born circa 1838), Peter McQueen (born 25 Sept 1839), James McQueen (1) (born 1st Dec 1841), Margaret McQueen (born circa 1844), John McQueen (born 7 April 1846) and James McQueen (2) (born 23 May 1848). James McQueen (2) went on to marry Ellen Doyle on 10 April 1870 in Liverpool. I am now seeking further information on Owen McQueen and of course any earlier generations. I would be grateful if anyone has any information or clues on the above.
