    1. Re: [McQUEEN] John McQueen/McQuin
    2. Patricia McQueen
    3. Hello very interesting to me because my family name was McQueen before I married. I am descended from the Scots McQueens not sure where they originated but one of them John McQueen my Dad was born in Dublin, his Dad was Thomas Owen born 1874 Liverpool and his Dad James b.1848 Mochrum, Wigtownshire, Scotland. So my ggrandfather was James m. Ellen Doyle in Liverpool 1870, not sure if Catholic or Presbyterian as James was baptised in Presbyterian Church of Scotland. There was a Osborne McQueen who lived in Salt Lake City had a daughter called Elizabeth who married and died there. I might just might be related to them??? About DNA I think I would like to try it but you only need males right, so that lets me out my brother Con died, my Dad and his brothers have died and I have first cousins also recently died Would a son of my first cousin Lily female do? It's just a chance. He lives in Ireland and I am in San Francisco. I am going over there next year and that's the only male I can think of at the moment. I might think of someone else. What about my 3 sons. I am Irish born of Scots descent on the male side. Would my sons have the McQueen genes? If so I could do it but what about the fees I am sure it would cost too much? My husband and I Michel are retired and I have 3 male sons grown and 2 are living with us so I am sure they would let me have samples. All for now, cheers, let me know the outcome soon? ----- Original Message ----- From: MDaly8485@aol.com To: McQUEEN-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Saturday, May 20, 2006 10:13 AM Subject: [McQUEEN] John McQueen/McQuin John McQueen was born 22 August 1761 in Orange County, VA and died 14 February 1855 in Estill County, KY. In his application for a RW pension he stated his name was spelled both ways - McQueen and McQuin. Thus this query is being sent to both lists. We are most anxious to contact descendants of this John. A DNA study for McQueen, McQuinn, McQuin and alternate spellings has been established at Relative Genetics, _www.relativegenetics.com_ (http://www.relativegenetics.com) , Salt Lake City, UT., Scott Kendall coordinator. Preliminary DNA test results show interesting relationships for descendants of VA ancestors, but we need additional participants to enlarge the study. You can contact Scott Kendall at _skendall@kc.rr.com_ (mailto:skendall@kc.rr.com) or me at _mdaly8485@aol.com_ (mailto:mdaly8485@aol.com) for additional information. We are waiting to hear from you. The name of John McQueen/McQuin's wife was Mary "Polly" Allendale, she preceded him in death. Children were Dicey/Etta, married John Purcell, Dianah married Daniel Hoover, Thomas married Nancy Tincher, Samuel married Isabella Tincher, Isabella married James Moore, Nancy no information, Hannah no information, William married Anna Harris, John, jr, married Rachel Sparks, Polly/Mary married/1 Isaac Bates and m/2 John Embree, Sally married Aaron Parrish and Anna married James Bates. 2. Lucas A. McQueen was born August 13, 1975 in Los Angeles. Mother's maiden name was McQueen. This is all I could find. There is a Holly J. McQueen that died in 1977. I'm not sure if that is the same Holly or not. She was born in 1951.

My line is Quinn born Ireland went to Scotland became Queen then added McQueen. The family moved to Liverpool after the agri business slowed down and industry developed in the big cities like Liverpool where they stayed. Their children used McQueen and that continued by the father and mother were listed as Owen McQuinn and Margaret McQuinn on the death records in Liverpool. I think it's the change from the Gaelig to the English where the names were confused and today Quinn and Queen are often interchangable. His date of birth of about 1765 has been estimated from census and tax records. >From records that exist, his birthplace has been assumed to be Virginia. The first official record found for Braxton McQuin(n) is the 1788 personal property tax list lower district, Russell County, VA. By 1791 he is in Wilkes County, NC where he buys 200 acres from John Burroughs located on Big Elkin Creek.. In 1796 he is the administrator of the estate of Charles McQueen (his name also spelled McQueen in this record) In the 1800 Wilkes County census he is shown with 3 young males, one young female and an older female in his household. This family is assumed to be that of the deceased Charles McQueen as it does not conform to later known family records. Braxton McQuin(n) cannot be located in the 1810 census, but it is known by that year he is married to Mary "Polly" Poe. In fact his first son Marshall McQuinn was born in 1804. Braxton was an attorney and presented his license in both Burke and Ashe counties in addition to Wilkes. By 1819 he is in Clay County, KY and may have moved there earlier. He is also found in Floyd and Perry Counties,KY and dies between 1834 and 1837 in Perry County, KY. His widow and children are in MO by 1840. Names of known children in addition to Marshall are: sons Alexander, James Charles and John; daughters, Susan, Elizabeth, Sara, Levica, Matilda, and Mary Caroline ============================== New! 3. Scott, I don't think McQuinn is so new after all. The family migrated to Liverpool where my grandfather was born 1874 and I know the family lines from then on from James son of Owen to present day but not the siblings of my g/father Albert and Frederick W. McQueen both sons of James. I have the family in 1881 Brit census but only my line from James McQueen b. 1848 son of Owen Any help appreciated.
