Hello Just to say I have been looking for my McQueens for a couple of years now with no luck so perhaps I can repost and hope someone sees a link! Hugh McQUEEN - b. c. 1820 probably Ayrshire - a wool merchant Peter McQUEEN b. 1845 again probably Ayrshire. Peter was a master plasterer, possibly worked on Mount Stewart, Rothesay and Cardiff Castle as a tiler/plasterer. He married Esther Sarah POTTER in London 1868. They had 4 daughters: Cordelia Walton -born 1868 London Grace Lillian- born 1874 London Florence Malvenia- born 1872 London Lottie/Katey Laveniana - b. 1877 Rothesay Peter left for America probably late 1870s -1880s. without family. I have no idea where he is buried. Any help would be very much appreciated. Linda Southport, Lancashire
My Macqueens hail from Lanarkshire and Renfrewshire. They may be related to Robert Macqueen of Braxfield (a rather notorious judge -- definitely one of the black sheeps of the family). Anyway the line goes as follows:- Archi m. Betty 1792 William b. 1803 m. Elizabeth Stewart, John 1851 m. Laura Roubottam in 1883 Birmingham England), Roy Stewart bn. 1907 m. Betty Davidson, John bn 1945 (my husband) Any connections? Dawn
This may be useful information for others with Primitive Baptist ancestry: there is both a genealogical list and two message boards for PB church research. "My" McQueens are actually more like shirt-tail relations, but since I can't seem to go anywhere with them, they've become more of a priority: George W. McQueen m Lydia GHOLSON dau of Benjamin GHOLSON and Jane GANNAWAY. I have no idea where they married, but the Gholsons were instrumental in starting many Primitive (Old School) Baptist churches throughout KY, IA, MO. I know that at least some of Lydia Gholson's siblings and parents were in White Co IL (late 1820s-early 1830s), Mahaska Co IA (1840s), and that Lydia and George McQueen went to OR ca 1855-60, then into WA Terr by about 1880. Anyone know who George W. McQueen's parents were? Nancie Howell Willey

Hi group, I'm Catherine, new to the list. I'm researching the McQueen's, so far, in Tillydown, Marnoch, Banff, Scotland. So far, this is where I'm at. Robert Gray married Margaret McQueen ? son, Hector Gray born 24th Aug 1797 baptised 28th August in Tillydown, Marnoch On the Marnoch OPR film there were these other McQueen's. The info might help someone else on the list. Jean daughter of John McQueen and Ann Innes of Backeley was born 24th day of March and baptised 28th. Witnesses Alexander Innes and James Adam. Charles son of Charles McQueen and Ann Porter in Braes of Crombie was born 8th of September and baptised 9th September 1802 Marnoch. Witnesses William Ogilvie and John Porter. Christian daughter of Charles McQueen and Ann Porter in Braes of Crombie was born 23rd November and baptised 1st December 1799. Before witnesses John A?tor? and John Porter. John McQueen in Parish of New Deer and Ann Innes in this Parish (Marnoch) were matrimonially contracted 9th June consigned pledges in my hands were married. George Horn in the Parish of Forgue and Ann McQueen in this Parish (Marnoch) were matrimonially contracted 10th November consigned pledges in my hands and were married.

I did look at the NC censuses for 1790 through 1810 and found Autrys (including one that was probably my 3-great grandfather), McQueens, and Purcells all living in close proximity. That, in general, is most likely where my line runs... but specifically where, I have no idea. All 3 families were well represented there, but of course only heads of household were named. One note about Ashkenazi ancestry, though. While most Jews are of Ashkenazi descent, not all Ashkenazi were Jews. Askenazi was a kingdom in an area also known at various times as Scythia and Magog, and now it's parts of Georgia & the Ukraine (formerly part of the Soviet Union). I'm still finding out about this DNA stuff, and it's rather interesting for a person who knows only of Native American and Western European ancestry to find that kind of DNA track... ------- End of forwarded message -------
I found this in a book at my library today. The book is Marriage and Death Notices From the South Western Baptist Newspaper. Debbie 11-5-1851 Died on the 3rd day of October 1851 at the residence of her husband in Lowndes County, AL, Mrs. Martha McQueen, in the thirty-ninth year of her age. The subject of this notice was born in the state of Georgia and emigrated to this state with her father in the year 1818. She was baptized by her father, Rev. James McLemore, on the 18th of February 1832 and united with the Baptist Church at Elam, Montgomery County, from which she was dismissed by letter on the 18th of June 1836 and joined the church at Lownesboro... She has left a doting husband, eight children, a mother, brother and sisters...
