To those of you trying to connect the James McMurray line, I have some info on the Rutherford Co. NC McMurrays related to William & Samuel McMurray. I will be glad to share. Send me an email address and I will attach a file. Have not been able to connect James McMurray yet. This McMurray line used the old naming patterns extensively and everybody had a Samuel, William, James, John, etc. Makes tracing them very very difficult. Also have some limited info on a McMurray line from Oglethorpe Co.GA which appears to be somehow related to the Rutherford Co. McMurray's (spelled McMurry). Will share this also. Ben Callahan

Any possibility of a connection to this brick wall? Mary Ann (Polly) McMurry (b. 28 Nov 1803 TN, d. 11 Mar 1865 Upshur county, TX) m. 7 Oct 1824 Dickson County, TN, to Lemuel READ. (Family tradition says came from Ireland at age 3 - raised by brother when parents died.) 1850 census: age 44 1860 census: age 57. I believe that she may be the daughter of Thomas McMurry and Agnes or Nancy Flack. I found court records that show her as a minor orphan 2 Oct 1820- Robert McMurry guardian. She would have been 17 at the time. In the same court record: Cynthia McMurry minor orphan 2 Oct 1820 - James McMurry guardian; Sally and Washington McMurry minor orphans 2 Oct 1820 - William McMurry guardian. Are guardians older siblings or uncles? She used the names of these siblings and/or uncles to name some of her 12 children: William Thomas, Washington, Sarah Jane, James Robert, and Nancy. One of her grandsons was Robert McMurry Read. Can anyone help? Florence H. King fking@pipeline.com
