I don't know if we are from the same McMurray family or not. My lineage runs from John McMurray born in Ireland who came to America before the Revolutionary War. His sons were Joseph McMurray born Abt. 1795 in Tennessee Territory and William Lafayette McMurray and there were three younger sisters, Sarah (b. 1809 in Warren Co., TN), Mary Ann "Polly" and Nancy. This family moved to Washington Co., Arkansas in 1829 in the area which later became Madison Co. This William McMurray sold his land in Madison Co. in 1846 and moved elsewhere. I Warren County, you will find a number of McMurray (and McMurry's) in the 1820 Census: John, Betsy, James, Samuel, and Alexander. I don't know if any of these were related to John McMurray (from Ireland), but family information indicates that John had one brother that came with him. Looking at land records in Warren County: Alexander and John purchased land in 1814. Alexander sold his land in 1819 and John in 1825.
