    3. Hi cousins, I was at the Library of Congress today looking for some of my Watson ancestors and found some McMurray information somewhat accidentally when I made a photocopy of a page with some Watsons on it! They aren't my family as far as I know but maybe they belong to one of you. I've copied this exactly as it is in the book. 2. Don McMurray
    3. Lisa, I hope this will help rather than confuse your search. Several of my male family members were in Washington Co., Va. for a time beginning in 1782. The county was a convenient area on the route to Ky. through Cumberland Gap. I think they were visiting their aunt who had moved to Washington Co. with her husband from where she lived as a single girl and where her nephews were born and lived on the Cowpasture River in Botetourt Co., Va. The McMurray men were in the process (starting in 1776) of scouting out the Kentucky territory of Va. and Tenn. (near now Nashville) for land after outgrowing their folks' family farms on the Cowpasture River. One of these men, John McMurray even purchased some land in Washington Co., Va. before moving to his previous 1775 claim in Ky. John and his brothers, Thomas and my ancestor James and their married sisters all migrated to Ky. by 1789. Added to these sightings for my gang is the fact that there are a few other McMurray men in Washington Co., Va. in the early 1780's, probably all relatives but unconnected as of this date. Best regards, Don McMurray -----Original Message----- From: FP4SALE@aol.com [mailto:FP4SALE@aol.com] Sent: Wednesday, January 24, 2001 1:46 PM To: MCMURRY-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [McMurry] My Samuel and Elizabeth McMurray All this talk of McMurrays ...same names different places. I am interested in the Samuel McMurray who ended up in Scott County, formerly Washington Co. VA. His father was Samuel McMurray and married an Elizabeth. If this ties in with anyone, I would love to know. The son Samuel was born in Sullivan Co. TN but decendents lived in Scott Co. These Samuels lived in the late 1700's and early 1800's. Hope to find out the last name of my Elizabeth. Thanks all! Lisa ______________________________

    2. Marianne Mcfrederick
    3. Dorles and Wilda, I will back up one more generation to my great grandfather James Perry McMurray. He was born 05 Dec 1850 Monroe County OH. Married Nancy Eliz. Howell 09 Feb 1875 Belmont Co. OH. On this marriage certificate the McMurray name is spelled Murray/McMurray/Murry. He died 29 Apr 1919 Belmont CoOH. Parents of J.P. McMurray were William McMurray b 1825 OH m. 12 Dec 1848 Guernsey CoOH to Hannah Carpenter. Wm. died in 1855 buried Noble CoOH. (marriage listing and tombstone listing). Hannah Carpenter McMurray (dau of Richard and Mary Carpenter) remarried to Henry Morris in 1858 Noble CoOH. My J. P. McMurray is not listed in the 1850 Monroe Co Oh Census taken Sept 1850 as he was born in Dec 1850. We next find J.P. in the home of his step-father Henry Morris in 1860. The William McMurray 1825-1855 was always thought in the oral family history to be a son of William McMurray 1753-1839 who served in the Revolutionary War. This William was born in Carlisle PA 19 Jul 1753, married Ann (?McAdam or Long?) 09Apr 1795, died 28 Mar 1839 Morgan Co OH. They had 10 children. I personally believe there is a generation missing here between the Williams, but have not been able to prove satisfactorily yet. Thank you for your time. Any thoughts or clues would be appreciated. Marianne. :-) Repass, Dorles L wrote: > Marianne, > > My Isabelle McMurry (born c. 1808) who married Smith James and lived in > Barren county, KY may be related to your William. 2. The McMurray and Huddlestone families were in Rutherford Co. at about the same time. I have a McMurray connection through Samuel & Margaret McMurray of Rutherford Co. NC. Also have some Huddleston info. Will be glad to share. By the way, the Granville District of NC was a large section of the state east of Rutherford. It was divided into many Counties but Rutherford was not one of them. Have more on this also. Ben Callahan bcalla6711@aol.com

They had a son named John and John had a son named John who was the great Grandfather of my Grandpa's mother. I would sure like to make a connection somewhere. My people stayed in Scott Co Va..... 3. Marianne, My Isabelle McMurry (born c. 1808) who married Smith James and lived in Barren county, KY may be related to your William. 3. I have some 'unknown' pictures on my web page connected with my Keever family. There is a Bartholomew family and McLucas and some others without names. Could be McMurray too. I don't know how the Bartholomew's connect with our family but the message on the pictures give the relationship. The url is: http://www.geocities.com/pashe_46160/index.html If any of the links don't work going from one page to another they might connect better from the contents page. I have not worked on it for a while. I don't know if it is typical of geocities or not, sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. 1. RE: [McMurry] Fielden McMurray
    2. Repass, Dorles L
    3. Don, Just FYI: I've looked at the surnames Fielding/Fielden/Feland for some time trying to determine how they fit in with the James and McMurry surnames. The Fielding/Fielden/Feland surnames were all present in early Lincoln county, KY. In Warren and Barren counties, KY a William Fielding/Feland (both spellings on various deeds/documents) lived next door to my direct James ancestor. Further, in Barren county, the Feland family married into the McMurry family. Thought the names "Feland" and "Fielding" might be helpful in your research. He is the half-brother of my ancestor, William McMurray. Their father is James McMurray (KY) (b. ca. 1758). James married first Janet Jane McElwee (b. 1772) on 30 Dec 1790 in Lincoln Co., Ky. and their known children are Janet Jane (b. ca. 1791) my ancestor, William (b. 1792), Sally (b. ca. 1795), and James (b. ca. 1797). After Janet Jane died in 1797, James married Margaret Priest Smith on 20 Jan 1799. Margaret's & James's children are Jane Lennette (b. 18 Nov 1799), John C. (b. ca. 1800), George H. (b. 02 June 1802), Clelland (b. ca. 1809), Mary (b. ca. 1813), Fielden (b. 31 May 1814), H.A. (pos, child, b. 1815), and Corbin (b. pos 1816). James McMurray (KY)'s parents are Agnes & William McMurray (VA) and his grandfather is William McMurray (VA the Elder) of Ireland, an Ulster Scot, who, according to family tradition, "brot his five sonnes (and at least one daughter) over the briney deepe" to America. Agnes's & William's children's ages are uncertain so I'll give my best guess. All were apparently born in the Shenandoah Valley of Va. on the Cowpasture River, Augusta, now Botetourt Co., Va. They are John (b. ca. 1752-53), James (b. ca. 1758), Thomas (b. ca. 1760 or 1765), Janet Jane (b. ca. 1771), Agnes (b. ca. 1772), and Robert (b. Dec 1772). Agnes's and William's children left Va. between 1782 (Thomas), 1789 (all but Robert) and 1804 (Robert). Everyone went into the area of Va. that became Ky. and settled in either Lincoln Co. (Thomas) or on the Rolling fork of the Salt River in Nelson, now Marion Co., Ky. Smith James's mother was Martha "Patsy" Snead. Martha had a brother named Smith Snead. Smith James also had an uncle by marriage, Peyton Smith. So, I suppose the "Smith" in Smith James's name could come from either of these uncles. Then, of course, Smith James had another uncle, Fielden/Fielding James. You mentioned that Fielden McMurray was a farmer in Illinois prior to moving to Oregon in 1753. Is this a correct date? Should it be 1853? Can you tell me more about Fielden McMurray? His parents? Other siblings? It seems possible that there could be a connection between your McMurray line and my McMurry line. Thanks. There is also a Smith McMurray in our line but no one has figured out why the name Smith was given to him. I always thought it was just a mix-up in the records. Elizabeth HUDDLESTON 1786 in Rutherford Co., NC Don, I don't know if you remember corresponding with me. I am looking for the family of Isabelle McMurry who married Smith James between 1820-1825. Smith James was from Barren county, KY. He and Isabelle moved to Texas in 1854. I have never found their marriage record, but Smith was apparently in Alabama for a short period sometime between and 1820 and 1830. I am in close contact with Wilda McMurry who has been involved in this latest McMurry discussion. The name Fielden is important to the James family. Smith James's uncle was Fielden/Fielding James who died young in Barren county in 1817. Fielding James's widow was Sally Custer James who later married Michael Robinson and migrated to Jefferson county, Indiana. It is believed that Fielding James's mother, Ruth, may have been a Fielding/Fielden by birth.
