    3. Golly gee - as a McMurry born and bred, I consider THAT spelling to be the standard! The reality is that the folks back then didn't put as much emphasis on consistent spelling as we do today. They spelled their names however the spirit moved them at the moment - provided they were literate, of course. If they weren't literate, then it was up to whoever was doing the spelling for them. All of which, naturally, is part of what makes genealogy such a great game. 3. Ben, I have just began to have time to look some things over. Benjamin Biggerstaff who married Mary Van Zandt is the brother of Samuel Biggerstaff married to Martha Lytle. Samuel is my husbands 4th great grandfather. I have a Garret VZ listed as Mary's father. Is that correct. I checked you page briefly but didn't find the Van Zandt line. I will have to look again. I have Benjamin listed with his son Aaron but that is all so I will add Jane Carter. I will keep in contact and see what we can find that leads our McMurrys together perhaps. Thanks for all your help. I am going to do a little more looking around now. Donna

    2. I don't know if this might be one of ours, but our McM's in White Oak Twp., Franklin Co., AR at that time. But there were more others than you might think. Two things might pinpoint where to start looking early on for you. Do a search online for Biggerstaff in AR. It's a fairly unusual name, might be able to find the family quickly associated w/McM. Check the 1880 census in AR for James &/or James Samuel. or James S. Might find him quickly that way as you know the age. If you find him let me know, we'll see if there's any connection.
