Sorry for waiting so long to reply. Our families may very likely tie together. Unfortunately, I do not go back that far. The only tidbit that I have is that of a Samuel McMurry born in @1786 in Sullivan County TN. A death record Nov 6 1858 shows his parents to be Samuel and Elizabeth McMurry. My Samuel was married to Jane Ramey @1808 and they had a son named John b. 1809 and he had a son named John b. 1843 too both on my direct line. Common Family name! Not many people seem to be researching these folks. They have pleny of decendents though. Samuel moved to Washington Co VA which later became Scott Co VA in the southwest corner. They remained there through the 1800's but Johns daughter, Icy, took off to Oregon in the early 1900's. If any one can link my Samuels further back, please contact me. Thanks and good luck! That's not an uncommon name for a cemetery. This is the one you want. I found this at: http://web.utk.edu/~ddonahue/decatur/cross.htm CROSSROADS CEMETERY This is a moderately large cemetery on stae highway 69/U.S. 641 about 3 miles north of Parsons. It is indicated at Crossroads Church on the U.S.G.S. Jeanette qaudrangle (1986). The cemetery is well maintained. Topography causes the cemetery to appear split into two parts, with an older section to the north and a new section to the south, separated by a low-lying area. This cemetey was recorded in late spring or early summer 1991. I did not record the date, but is most likely was the second or third weekend in May. I think it was the day before the scheduled cemetery decoration/homecoming. Update August 7, 1997. This cemetery was recorded by Doris Scott and Blanche Tuten on March 25, 1977. Their record appears in Decatur County, Tennessee Cemetery Records published by the Captain Nathaniel A. Wesson Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Parsons, Tennessee, 1984, pp. 151-159. Reference is made to this work where appropriate. Scott and Tuten noted "at least 46 unmarked graves." Does anyone have any information on the James McMurry, b. about 1720 in Ireland or Scotland, who purchased land in 1756 from Lord Granville in Orange Co., NC? He died after 1788 in NC, perhaps Caswell Co. Was he the father of Samuel, b. 1740 and John, b. 1748? Thanks, Sandra

For anyone that is interested, there will be a get-together of descendants of JOSEPH and MAHALA MCMURRAY HENDERSON on Saturday, October 27, 2001 at Bethel United Methodist Church in Whitfield County, Dalton, GA. Bring a covered dish and your cameras. Dinner will be around 1 PM. This get-together is occasioned by the visit to our fair city of Peter and Maureen Furmidge Henderson. Peter is the son of Jesse Francis Henderson, grandson of William H. Henderson and greatgrandson of John David and Mary Elizabeth McCune Henderson. Jesse (Peter's father) disappeared during World War I and was thought to be dead. However, he fell in love with and married a young lady in England by the name of Gertrude Sanders and stayed there. After his parents death, Peter began searching for his American family with very little to go on, but he did find us and made his first visit here in 1981. We hope that everyone connected with the family will stop by this Saturday and say hello to Peter ! and Maureen and any of the rest of us that they don't know. All descendants no matter how remote are welcome. If you need directions or information please feel free to contact me. Paula http://www.geocities.com/huntingkin/ Sorry for duplicates, just trying to cover all bases.
Why don't you try the county or town Dept. of Public Works to see if any of those guys would do it on their own time? My dad is head of a small group of family members that pay for the cleanup of an old TN farm cemetery...folks with a family member buried there contribute $25 a year or something for cleanup. Beth
Maybe the Genealogical Society of that town. Or write to the local newspaper. Or the church it is related to if any.
I have lost the original message; but, if this cemetery is within the counties covered by the TN RootWalkers list, then I would suggest contacting one of its coordinators, Stan Magnesen, at Yelowstone@aol.com. If you do not know the counties that are covered by this absolutely wonderful list, please click onto this URL link: http://www.rootsweb.com/~tnnmid/counties.htm Hope that this helps, Leslie (Bridges) Kohler - ListFounder/Coordinator
