    3. Hi Tina, sorry, their is no information in the book "McMurry Family" for McMurray or McMurry families in County Antrim. The book starts with William McMurry (McMurray) who came to America prior to 1749. It's possible William and his family are related to your Margaret. Unfortunately, I've had no success connecting my McMurray relatives to their ancestors in Ulster, or for that matter, in Scotland. I'm pretty sure that William's ancestors arrived in County Down, Ulster in the year 1606. This because the family tradition says he is a fourth- or fifth-generation Scot born in Ulster. If this is correct the early muster rolls for County Down and Ulster show that the M'Murray and M'Murry men (apostrophes are as shown in the rolls) and their families were concentrated in County Down in 1638 and 1645. The Murray, M'Murray, and M'Murry families began to move into other parts of Ulster after King James's Great Plantation of Ulster which took place in 1611. Records show that the king's larger plantation occurred in all the Ulster counties except Down and Antrim which were already full of Scots from the 1606 settlement. 3. I have a copy of "McMurry Family" and am a descendant of Agnes (not Mary) & William McMurray. There are no more copies available other than those in major libraries. You might try inter-library loan to borrow McMurry Family to read. However, don't get your hopes up, there is very little documentation to support the claims in the book. It's more of a primer for researchers who want to go beyond the book's basics and prove a relationships to this large McMurray family. Some examples of the built-in errors in McMurry Family: The William McMurry (McMurray) referred to in the book is actually the son of an older William McMurray. This son's wife is probably named Agnes, surely not Mary. The name Mary came from some land William (the son) owned on the Mary (now South) River on the floor of the Shenandoah Valley. The misspelling of William McMurray's name as McMurry is a common error and Marilyn Bone, the editor, can be forgiven. The spelling was a common error of past enumerators and one that caused several of the sons of Agnes & William to allow their surname to be changed to McMurry. Please don't be discouraged, Bone's McMurry Family has some good information in it, especially for the generations that followed the earliest settlers. My ancestor, William's son James didn't fare too well, only 24 pages of history out of a total of 448 pages in the book. I first saw the book in the Genealogy Room (Thomas Jefferson Bldg) of the Library of Congress. Unfortunately, the library doesn't participate in the inter-library loan program. Your local library can do a search for you to see which libraries have copies of the book. I believe their is a copy in the library in Frankfort, Ky. In the meantime, I'll be happy to look up any connections you might have to the family. 2. Leslie & Gary Kohler
    3. Starting today (Monday, 6/10) and extending over several days, RootsWeb is going to be moving the list servers and other machines. No messages sent are expected to be lost, but several lists could be down at a time when each change is made. Please don't post "why aren't I getting mail" during that time. When the list comes back up, you won't want half of the posts to be everyone on the list asking why aren't they getting any mail. <grin> If you have trouble reaching other RootsWeb servers this week, it's probably for the same reason; try again in an hour or two or three..... Thanks! Leslie Bridges Kohler - List Mom

    3. Delores, my ancestor, William McMurray served as a private in Capt. Parr's Company from the Shenandoah Valley (Botetourt Co.), Va. The nucleus of Colonel Daniel Morgan's regiment was Capt. Parr's company of men who were recruited in the valley (James Graham, "Life of General Daniel Morgan." In Michael J. O'Brian, ed. Irish Settlers in America, 304-308, 312. Benson L. Lossing, ed. Pictorial Field Book of the Revolution, Vol. I, 61, 62 & 565. In O'Brian, Ibid. Vol. II. Charles Neilson, "Burgoyne's Campaign." In O'Brian, Ibid. Vol. II ). It's possible, of course, that some men from Orange County came over to the Shenandoah Valley to enlist and join the fun with Col. Morgan. Do you know which William this is? I have another ancestor who married into the McMurry family whose brother served in Morgan's Riflemen. He was from Orange county, VA. Maybe there was more than one Morgan's Riflemen? I didn't realize that any William McMurrys were in the Orange county, VA area. Can you help me out here? Thanks. Dorles Repass
